CIAA Commissioner McWilliams chats with HBCU Legends’ Mosley on media rights, membership changes, the league’s investment charter and more. McWilliams indicates a “historic” 10-year media rights deal that includes 800 games across all sports is nearing finalization, but asserts that “we are still not in the market and same place as our white colleagues in larger institutions. So now we have an opportunity…to be engaged with a partner who sees and has a vision of how they help us amplify in the market on several types of stations. That's powerful. I don't know why anybody else can't see it, but I do.” On revenue diversification: “80% of our revenue comes from the CIAA Tournament. If we sell all of our tickets, we have the opportunity to make $5 million in that building. That's the potential, [but] you've got to have another linkage of revenue or another source of revenue” as a contingency for unexpected events such as cancellation of the tourney due to COVID-19. Kutztown will restart Men’s Swimming, which was eliminated in 2009, as its 23rd varsity sport for 2024-25. VP for University Relations & Athletics Santos: “We have considered several scenarios for sport expansion over the past five years. We needed to first make a stronger commitment to Title IX by enhancing support for our current women's programs and adding a new women's sport. The addition of men's swimming is the best fit for our institution as it is sponsored by many of our sister institutions and the necessary infrastructure is already in place in the Athletic Department. We also listened to our women's swimmers, who felt the addition of a men's team was important to their experience as student-athletes.” President Hawkinson notes KU has been growing enrollment through athletics; the newest program is expected to add 17 new students to KU's overall enrollment, which includes five new women's swimmers by 2024. Women’s Swimming HC Flannery will reassume leadership of both programs. (link)

+ Bowie State received a $500K commitment from Kevin Durant and the Durant Family Foundation toward a new court, bleachers and press box enhancements in AC Jordan Arena, as well as a scholarship fund for Durant Center College Track students who decide to attend BSU. (link)

+ Morehouse inks a three-year with Black College Sports Network and HBCU League Pass Plus to broadcast select Maroon Tigers contests. (link)

West Florida FB HC Shinnick resigned in order to accept the same post at Towson (DI). The inaugural coach in Argonaut program history leaves after six seasons with a 56-21 record and a 2019 national championship. (link)

Northwestern Oklahoma State names high school AC/former West Texas A&M HC Jones as its new HC. + South Dakota Board of Regents Executive Director Maher says the state’s higher education system will obey a new TikTok ban on state devices, and state universities will delete the various TikTok accounts they currently operate. Maher: “Our universities are not to use TikTok for university marketing and communication.” Obviously this could have implications on the athletic departments within the state. (link)

+ Some wild statistics from LinkedIn CEO Roslansky: “Pre-pandemic, ~1% of all jobs posted on LinkedIn were remote. As of today, that number is ~14%...but that's not the fascinating part. What's fascinating is north of 50% of all job applications on a daily basis on LinkedIn go to that 14% of remote jobs. + Twitter announces more changes to TwitterBlue, which will relaunch on Monday. A subscription comes with Edit Tweet, 1080p video uploads, reader mode and the blue check mark.
