Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger provides an update on the SCORE Act, noting the bill is “expected to now have enough support to pass the House, is back on track to reach the floor for a potential vote. CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams Parker sits down with HBCU Gameday’s Steven J. Gaither on the growth of Football ahead of last weekend’s Football championship, which returned to North Carolina for the first time since 2015. “We want to grow football. We talk a lot about basketball and the growth of that. I think if we continue to market the way we are and pull in our alumni from all of our institutions and let them see that there's an opportunity to have the biggest and greatest CIAA Division II homecoming ever for our championship, we can do that. But we're building back from being out for a while and then coming back in our footprint.” On potential conference expansion: “Our board is very bullish about who gets to come in, what value they bring, what value we bring to them and what value they bring to the CIAA. So I think, Steve, we will always look and see the schools around us and what makes sense. We give a nice, healthy distribution. We have our media rights. We're probably one of the largest in Division II to have the distribution that we have, the way we give out scholarships and our sponsorships, so you don't come into a conference getting nothing. There's definitely a return on investment in being a part of the CIAA, as we are a family and trying to make sure everybody's whole in participating in college athletics. So it's not off the table. We'll continue to talk to those who have been reaching out and to explore what those opportunities are in the future.” More. (link)

So there's the growing have and have nots and so for us, we think that we're a great partner for maybe the people outside of the SEC and the Big Ten. We continue to see that disruption. Student-athletes over all three NCAA divisions have continued their success in the classroom, according to Wednesday’s release of the latest graduation rate data. Reflecting graduation numbers among those who entered college from 2015 to 2018, DII remained at an all-time high four-cohort ASR rate of 77%. All women’s sports surpassed an ASR of 80%, with Men’s Ice Hockey and Men’s Wrestling showing the greatest increases of four and three percentage points, respectively. (link)

The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has released a white paper – developed with CarrSports Consulting – outlining five strategic priorities to elevate women’s lacrosse amid rapid growth, House Settlement pressures, Title IX implications and a national shortage of game officials. The five priorities include a unified national vision and brand; simplified rules and administration; a formal officiating pipeline; enhanced NCAA championship experiences aligned with the Kaplan report; and expanded multimedia exposure. IWLCA President Kelly Gallagher says women’s sports are surging and “with the right strategic framework and collective action, women’s lacrosse can secure its position as a premier intercollegiate sport for generations to come.” IWLCA Executive Director Elizabeth Robertshaw adds: “Women’s lacrosse is at a pivotal moment. … We must act strategically to ensure this momentum translates into long-term prominence and sustainability.” The report highlights 262 new NCAA programs in 20 years, a 135% increase in high school participation, record attendance of 14,423 at the 2025 championship and a 269% viewership jump since moving to ESPN. North Carolina (DI) HC Jenny Levy calls the moment “a once-in-a-generation chance to elevate women’s lacrosse,” adding that simplifying rules, bolstering officiating pipelines and maximizing media exposure are “essential to growing our fan base and securing our position among premier women's sports.” Full white paper. Facing a continued Trump administration push to shutter the agency and grant states more control over educational funding decisions, the U.S. Department of Education is transferring management of the following programs to other federal agencies: the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Office of Postsecondary’s institution-based grants to the U.S. Department of Labor; Indian education programs to the U.S. Department of Interior; on-campus child care support for parents enrolled in college and foreign medical accreditation to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and International education and foreign language studies programs to the U.S. Department of State. Per Higher Ed Dive’s Kara Arundel, “the changes do not include movement for the management of special education, civil rights enforcement or student financial aid, however, a senior Education Department official who spoke during a Tuesday press call said the agency is continuing to explore options for those programs.” (link)
