#10: Tampa AD E.J. Brophy chats with the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Breanna Williams about a number of topics, including following long-time AD Larry Marfise: “I’m following a legend, and that’s challenging because you’ve got big shoes to fill. The positive is that anytime you have fresh eyes on things — even though everything here is very strong — you can look at something through a different lens and tweak it and enhance it a little bit. For the first time in my career, I’m coming in and there are many, many things I look at and say, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’” Brophy’s priorities are growing attendance for Spartans events and supporting Tampa’s current programs, adding: “Right now, we’re focusing on making the sports we have the best we can possibly be. The wins follow the money. The more money you raise, the more money you spend — in a responsible way, of course — the more you pay your coaches and the more scholarships you have, typically the wins follow that money. ... Here at UTampa, we already have elite facilities and an elite team. I think we focus on bringing in more fundraising dollars and more corporate sponsorship dollars, and we’ll drag even more W’s into the win column.” (link)
