NBC Sports’ Nicole Auerbach reports that for the second consecutive year, two College Football Playoff first-round games will go head-to-head with NFL regular-season matchups, a conflict CFP Executive Director Rich Clark says both sides worked to mitigate by tweaking kickoff times. The college games (Ole Miss-Tulane at 3:30pm ET and Oregon-James Madison at 7:30pm ET) have been moved up 30 minutes while the NFL kickoffs shifted back, creating a 90-minute standalone window for the first CFP contest. Clark, who met multiple times with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL Media EVP/COO Hans Schroeder, acknowledged the NFL has long occupied this specific Saturday window and noted: "We realize that the NFL has been playing on that Saturday for a long time. Our initial talks were to see how we could de-conflict. … We met probably three times to try to figure out a way to work through it, and this was, I think, the best we could do." Looking ahead, Clark suggested a more drastic solution, such as moving the entire CFP first round up one week to the second weekend of December, is "not off the table," though such a move would conflict with the Army-Navy game and shorten the recovery window between conference championships and the playoff. Clark also notes the commissioners and presidents prefer to keep the current two-week break between conference championship games and the first round for players’ health and safety reasons, but that leaders “will look at it and evaluate it as they do every year.” (link)

Inner Circle Sports is building out an advisory practice to assist schools in evaluating their options, pricing their assets, evaluating risk and, if needed, framing negotiations as private equity funds work their way into college sports. Former Stanford AD Bernard Muir, who was recently hired by the firm, remarks: “The world has changed so dramatically. If I was still sitting in that chair, it would be nice to have an advisor with no dog in the fight who is sitting on my shoulder to help assess the opportunities at hand.” Former George Mason Deputy AD for Capital Planning and Strategic Initiatives Andrew Lieber, who is leading the new strategy alongside Muir: “There’s nuance regarding how any sort of capital acquisition and deployment plays on your balance sheet and credit rating. You could be a Moody’s school, you could be an S&P school, you could be a Fitch school, and even within those, you could be treated differently. It requires someone to work with campus to identify debt coverage ratios and capacity for debt, and applying that to various forms of capital.” Muir: “Although we don’t know the nuances of the Utah or Big 12 deals, we’re all talking the same language now, and we can cite what they’re trying to do. It’s accelerating the conversation.” More. (link)

Kentucky AD Mitch Barnhart responds to the Lexington Herald-Leader's Jon Hale on reports he’s nearing retirement: “I love competing. … I love this place with all my heart. We came here [in] 2002, planning on staying six-to-eight years and stayed a lot longer. I know there’s people that get frustrated because I’ve been here a long time and that’s ok. I sense that. … We love Kentucky. I get up, invigorated about what we’re doing at work. I love watching our kids compete. When that day comes, I don’t know, I’ll sit down with my family and we’ll talk and determine what’s best for our family and for me, but most importantly, what’s best for Kentucky. And, you know, I’ve got two-and-a-half years left of my contract and the ambassador clause is out there. It can go anytime after December 31st, and if that’s something that’s best for this University, then we’ll have that conversation.” (link)

Nebraska AD Troy Dannen joins the Nebraska Athletics AD Show alongside Associate AD for Administration Jonathan Bateman to discuss the department's pivot in the post-House settlement landscape, confirming the wind-down of the 1890 Initiative collective in favor of a revised multimedia rights deal with Playfly Sports. Bateman describes the strategic shift as necessary because the settlement "dictated a smaller range of operationalization for what collectives can do," forcing the department to bring revenue-sharing operations in-house to manage the $20.5M cap while leveraging Playfly to facilitate “above the cap” third-party deals. Dannen emphasizes that this new model allows Nebraska to finally capitalize on its financial strength, explaining: “Go back [to] the late ‘90s. The vision was to build the west tower and have suites, which really put us in a financial position that nobody else is in even to this day. The rules never allowed us to take advantage of that financial position. Today the rules allow us to take advantage of that. So that the whole deal with Playfly, the diverting of money to our bottom line and moving it directly to the athlete, that's only possible because of the vision from 20 and 30 years ago of what we did to get into a financial position to sustain that.” (link)

North Texas Football season ticket holders are facing modest price increases for some of the desirable areas of DATCU Stadium in 2026, per the Denton Record-Chronicle’s Brett Vito, who notes prices in sections 104-106 (sections with chairbacks behind UNT’s bench) will rise from $450 to $475, while “Family Zone” tickets in sections 201-202 and 211-212 will jump from $80 to $100. UNT Deputy AD for Revenue Generation/CRO Charley Thrash: “The majority of our stadium pricing remains unchanged from last season. We did make targeted adjustments in a few of our highest-demand areas, including the family zone as well as the priority chairback sections. We feel this pricing model will allow us to remain competitive and keep the momentum going into 2026.” The school’s push to increase revenue from tickets comes in the wake of UNT students voting against an increase in their athletics fee this fall. Southern Football HC Marshall Faulk’s new three-year deal allows him to earn 20% of any new fundraising revenue he helps generate for the university, according to Sportico’s Daniel Libit, who adds that Faulk would also be permitted to direct half of the newly-raised funds to the football program, contingent on the team meeting NCAA academic and eligibility standards. Libit: “The agreement stipulates that on Dec. 15 of each year, Faulk will be provided an annual report showing the private donations, earmarked for football, to the Southern University System Foundation. He would then receive payment for all incentives, including performance, within 45 days.” Faulk’s three-year contract also includes “a wide array of performance incentives tied to on-field success and ticket revenue benchmarks. Bonuses are available for achievements such as defeating an FBS opponent. If the university sells more than $1M in tickets, Faulk would get an extra $10K; if it sells between $750K and $1M, he would get $5K.” (link)

Silver: “We’re talking with Amazon Prime [Video] about whether it makes sense to maybe go to some unique locations for the final game. They’ve suggested, for example, some storied college arenas. SBJ’s Ben Portnoy reports that the Big 12’s pending private capital agreement with RedBird Capital and Weatherford Capital carries a significant strategic implication beyond the $500M credit pool: a potential tether to CBS. Portnoy notes that because RedBird is a "major investor in Paramount Global, CBS’s parent company," the partnership aligns the conference with key business relationships that "might help boost its media value down the line" when its current rights deal with ESPN and Fox expires in 2029-30. While Portnoy clarifies there is no guarantee CBS will bid, he notes the deal opens the door for the network to potentially become involved with the league. He adds: “This deal has been six months in the making and marks another major step for the conference as it tries to shrink the revenue gap between it and the rest of the Power Four. With the Big 12 now into the private capital world, expect others to follow suit.” (link)

Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione visited with NACMA Timeout Podcast host/Fairfield Asst. VP/Deputy AD Zach Dayton to discuss a range of strategic topics, including the evolution of revenue generation, the founding of NACMA, leadership across different generations, the complexity of funding the "Palace Project" renovation, and the rise of private equity. On that last topic: “Our world is moving so fast that I don't think it would be wise to rule anything out at the moment. That being said, I haven't seen a model yet that works for us, at least individual institutions. It's, candidly, very expensive money. … They're willing to get involved if they can have a portion or maybe a large portion, if not all of the rights to something, so they can monetize the way that they see fit. That's a heck of a trade off for institutions to consider. Not saying it's a bad thing. I'm not saying we shouldn't actively talk about it or think about it, but I just haven't seen a plan yet that is conducive to helping us. But you know, this is an ever-evolving space and we're attractive, so that should tell you something. Private equity wouldn't be wanting to invest in college sports if they didn't see an ability to grow value. That should tell us all something that what we're doing has great value and whether we're monetizing it all on our campuses or through our conferences or not, there are still more opportunities for growth and that should excite everybody. So, let's be thoughtful about that, have good conversations, talk to people who are experts in that area. I'm not, but the plans that I've seen so far … not quite there yet.” (link)

Pacific AD Adam Tschuor kicked off his Roar More with Tschuor podcast with Tigers’ play-by-play voice Zack Bayrouty by offering his opinion on a number of topics including the future of multi-team events (MTEs) and whether Pacific will participate in them moving forward…
➤ “The Players Era Festival, for what it's worth, … I do not find it to be exciting TV. … I mean I watch the games, they're sterile, they're corporate, there's no excitement. And at the same time, and again, I love Vegas, it's a home for us for our WCC Tournament, but it's not a good time for them from a tourism standpoint. It's a tough place to go to. … Now they're talking about going to 32 teams next year. … Not just as a guy who’s worked in the business, but as a fan, some of my best experiences were at MTEs. Maui, Orlando, Charleston, Puerto Rico. We had a good time. I love those tournaments for the fans. I love it for the bonding and the camaraderie of the guys. I love it because it challenges you in consecutive days. … Which is the thing that some of these overpaid coaches in Power 4 schools are complaining about. ‘Oh, why should we have to play back-to-back days?’ It binds your team that much more closely together and guess what? The same kind of way that you're going to be expected to compete and perform in the postseason.”
➤ “So, they'll still exist. But I do think you're starting to see some corollaries right now of what's going to happen to our preseason events, to what you're seeing in postseason events in college football right now. … I think it's a dozen schools that have said no to their bowl bids. That's going to have a down trickle effect and those bowls are going to die, and yeah, you're going to see some MTEs die.”
➤ “We're still talking to a lot of the players in the space. … I think we're going to try to take advantage of some of the fluctuation. There's been some … [that] have reached out to us if we want to partner with them directly to build an MTE around what we might want and then build a field around that. So, us getting to pick the location, maybe we want to do something in Lake Tahoe. Hey Tahoe, in November, a basketball tournament, that'd be pretty fun. So, we’ll still have that as a component. And also too, because I have some relationships, maybe the expansion of the Players Era, and the continued rise in success of our program, might lead to a Maui invite or something. … There's been some other ones, the traditional ones, Paradise Jam and the Virgin Islands, a couple of 'em have already reached out. So no, it'll still be a component.” More from Tschuor. (link)

If you’re interested in leading the 49ers, the dossier is a must purchase. Don’t take our word for it. Former Fox Sports President Bob Thompson joins the Canzano & Wilner podcast to discuss the Pac-12’s new media rights agreements with CBS, The CW, and USA Network and suggests the deal likely trends toward the lower end of revenue estimates (around $7M-12M per school) because the conference prioritized exposure and the "unusual" request to set game times months in advance, noting: "That probably cost them some money because you can’t sit there in June, July, and pick your entire football schedule...you aren't always left with the most ideal matchups." In regards to the unsold basketball and Olympic sports inventory, Thompson advises the conference to "go ahead and just do it themselves" via Pac-12 Enterprises, potentially launching a direct-to-consumer app because "if you just offload that to ESPN, my guess is ESPN is going to say, 'Great, we'll take whatever you guys want to go ahead and produce. You send it to us. We'll put it up on there.' So why let them be the beneficiary? In a case like that, all you'd get would be some exposure. But if you put it on your own app or your own operation and as long as you don't put it behind a hugely expensive paywall, I think you can benefit on both sides.” (link)

SBJ’s Bret McCormick reports Proof of the Pudding has acquired RS3 Hospitality, the Texas-based concessionaire founded by MLB Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, marking the latest expansion for the Atlanta-based F&B provider following Bruin Capital’s 2023 investment. While the Ryan family retains some equity and the RS3 brand will continue operations, Proof takes majority ownership, and CEO Adam Noyes notes: "We want to continue scaling and growing, we have a great partner in Bruin Capital, not just capital to acquire and do new deals, but they’re connected across the industry, so strategic relationships. Our goal is not to be any of those big companies, it’s to be ourselves.” The deal follows Proof's acquisition of Toronto-based Marigolds and Onions, expanding the company's footprint to over 500 full-time employees across 16 states and Canada. Bloomberg’s Beth Kowitt analyzes the results of the 11th annual "Women in the Workplace" study by McKinsey & Co. and LeanIn.org, which found the "ambition gap" between men and women is at its widest point in the survey's history. While women remain committed to their work, only 80% expressed a desire to be promoted to the next level compared to 86% of men. That gap widens significantly at the entry level (11 percentage points) and senior executive (eight percentage points) tiers. Kowitt attributes this to a perceived betrayal by employers, noting that while 88% of companies cited gender diversity as a priority in 2017, that number dropped to 78% last year, with 20% of firms now admitting it is a "low or no priority." Crucially, the data shows the ambition gap disappears entirely when women receive the same managerial backing and sponsorship as their male counterparts; however, amid a rollback of DEI initiatives and flexible work arrangements, McKinsey Senior Partner Alexis Krivkovich observes: "It’s logical that you would start to see ambition drop as women lose faith that corporate America is there for them. They feel it viscerally in their day-to-day experiences.” (link)

A Washington Post-University of Maryland poll finds Americans are increasingly concerned about the influence of the sports gambling industry, with 36% now viewing the expansion of legal betting as "a bad thing" – up from 23% in 2022 – while only 14% view it positively. The negative sentiment is growing sharply even among those participating in the activity; 20% of respondents who bet on sports in the last five years now view the increased availability as negative, a significant jump from just 3% three years ago. Concerns about addiction (70%), fixed games (66%), and underage gambling (64%) remain high across the board. While a majority (51%) of active bettors believe discussing odds during broadcasts makes sports "more interesting," only 9% of non-gamblers agree, highlighting a sharp divide in how betting content is received by the general viewing public. The poll asked specifically about prop bets and found that while a majority (57%) were unfamiliar with the term and opinion on their legality was split (27% disallow vs. 23% allow), roughly 60% of Americans believe prop bets are "at least somewhat likely" to lead to games being fixed or rigged.
