UNK will eliminate five degree programs and 21 faculty positions; cut $200K from the athletics budget; provide $400K less in tuition waivers for athletics, Kearney Health and Kearney Law programs, with plans to try to fundraise to make up that difference and more. #2: Former UVA Wise Asst. AD for Communications Darrell-Dingus Ely has been hit with a three-year show-cause after a sports betting account tied to his email and Venmo placed over $300K in bets on college and professional sports over a two-year period. The Committee on Infractions states the account was accessed on campus, on road trips corresponding to UVA Wise road games and at his residence, leading the COI to state: “The only reasonable explanation was that Ely actively participated in the sports betting activity.” Ely claims other individuals in his family “placed the bets after he told them that he could not be involved.” Ely also failed to provide banking records and cooperate with the investigation after initially declining further interviews.
