#10: News Channel Nebraska’s Shively talks to MIAA Commissioner Racy about the league’s summer meetings, particularly the pursuit of expansion, about which Racy says: “You’re either getting bigger or you’re getting smaller. They want to be proactive. They want to be on the side of trying to grow and get bigger and better.” The goal is to get from 13 to 16 in the next couple of years, while 20 is on the table in the 4- to 5-year window. With Midwest regional public institutions in the crosshairs, Racy offers that travel considerations will necessitate going to a North/South divisional structure. Racy also believe that continued changes in DI could push schools to reclassify: “The economics will show that they need to make a different decision with athletics because of the damage that they’re doing to the rest of campus and the resources that they’re redirecting towards athletics when it really needs to be different places.” (link)
