Western New England names UC Santa Cruz Senior Assoc. AD for Compliance Pollock as its next AD. Carthage names Ripon AD/MBB HC Kane as the Firebirds' next AD, starting April 1. Carthage President Swallow: "Ryan's success as both a coach and athletic director at small, private Division III schools in the Upper Midwest made his candidacy exceptionally strong. His expertise in leadership, management, recruiting, fundraising, and more will allow him to hit the ground running and keep Carthage Athletics on a trajectory toward even greater strength and impact." Cornell College removes the interim tag from AD Meeker who has been leading the Rams since July. VP for Enrollment Management Beckemeyer: "Jeff is a strong leader as exemplified by his long history at Cornell. Cornell's winningest coach and a nine-time conference coach of the year, Jeff has earned the same admiration among Cornell's faculty and staff. He stepped into the interim AD role and led us through a new building transition while also launching a new women's wrestling program. The future of Cornell Athletics is bright with Jeff Meeker as our Director of Athletics." (link)

The DIII membership will vote on 12 proposals and one resolution at next week's NCAA Convention. On the docket are proposed changes to the composition of the Presidents and Management Councils, alterations to how DIII defines the practice and playing seasons, requiring incoming members to have an invitation from an active conference, establishing Stunt as an emerging women's sport and more. The lone resolution up for consideration is to establish a mental health hardship waiver process. Notable: the Special Rules of Order Business Session on Friday will consider special rules of order to "minimize procedural issues." (link)

Castleton FB will join the MASCAC as an affiliate member beginning in 2024. Castleton Asst. VP/AD Tyson: “The MASCAC is a great fit for Castleton geographically and allows us to continue to compete against high-quality programs within our region. The opportunity to compete with three other Little East Conference members as affiliates of the MASCAC made this an enticing move, as we can continue to build on our long-running history with Plymouth State while starting new rivalries with UMass Dartmouth, WestConn and the remainder of the programs in the league.” (link); D3Football.com reports the move will imperil the ECFC’s auto-bid, dropping the league to four members in 2024. Sweet Briar will grow its NCAA offerings to ten (and varsity sports to one dozen) with the addition of indoor and outdoor T&F for 2023-24. AD Vittone: “Our goal is to expand our roster and have a full cross country/track and field program by the fall of 2025. During the process of full implementation, we will provide our student-athletes with the opportunity in an indoor and outdoor track and field season. As SBC continues to grow and transform, athletics will do its part to help attract students with the desire to be strong, independently fierce leaders.” (link)

Calvin announces Oregon (DI) Offensive Analyst Figg as its first FB HC. Provost Toly, who co-chaired the search committee: "In starting a new program of this magnitude at Calvin, we know how important it is to have a coach who is first and foremost committed to creating a culture focused on developing the character of student athletes and to helping them holistically thrive here. The FTC is proposing a new rule that would ban noncompete clauses. From the commission: “By stopping this practice, the agency estimates that the new proposed rule could increase wages by nearly $300 billion per year and expand career opportunities for about 30 million Americans.” Director of the Office of Policy Planning Wilkins adds: “Research shows that employers’ use of noncompetes to restrict workers’ mobility significantly suppresses workers’ wages—even for those not subject to noncompetes, or subject to noncompetes that are unenforceable under state law. The proposed rule would ensure that employers can’t exploit their outsized bargaining power to limit workers’ opportunities and stifle competition.” The FTC is asking for comments on the proposal and will make any changes based on these comments which are due in the next 60 days.
