#5: Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s Cory Hogue pens on the possible future for the ASC pointing to sources who say Commissioner David Flores met with leaders from the remaining institutions last week and “little was done to alleviate those concerned about the ASC’s direction and future.” On rumblings of a merger or alliance with the SCIAC or C2C, Hogue notes such a move could lead to East Texas Baptist or Howard Payne exiting for another league. #4: The Empire 8 will add SUNY Brockport and SUNY Geneseo from the SUNYAC starting in 2024-25. The additions expand the E8 membership to 11 schools. Executive Commissioner Chuck Mitrano: “Both institutions have excellent academic profiles, field competitive teams, and are committed to enhancing the student-athlete experience. Like our current members, their athletes are highly accomplished in the classroom and active in their communities. Both institutions are passionate about the role intercollegiate athletics plays in the educational mission developing young women and men into well-rounded future leaders. Moreover, they fit into our geographic footprint enabling us to retain and strengthen opportunities for our student-athletes while being fiscally responsible. #3: Salem AD JJ Archibald will depart the Spirits to become the Assoc. Commissioner/SWA at the CCC. Former Meredith AD Jackie Myers will serve as Interim AD, while the college searches for a new AD. President Summer McGee: “Salem College has benefited tremendously from JJ's leadership and passion for supporting women student athletes in the last two years. We are also thrilled that Jackie will be guiding us through this transitional period, bringing a wealth of experience working at a women's college and leading a successful collegiate athletics program at Meredith.” (link)
