A judge has granted a temporary restraining order to prevent the Pac-12 from holding a board meeting on Wednesday. During the hearing, attorney Eric MacMichael, representing Washington State and Oregon State, argued that Pac-12 bylaws force schools departing from the conference to immediately forfeit their right to vote or be part of the Board of Directors. He also noted the conference abided by these rules when Colorado, USC, and UCLA all said they’d leave. He also addressed the financial situation and asserted the departing schools want to dissolve the conference in order to distribute the Pac-12’s cash and assets equally, "so that they can receive their equity stake on their way out the door." And there’s this from Front Office Sports’ Amanda Christovich: “On Saturday night, OSU/WSU's lawyers received docs saying Pac-12 wanted to vote on Wednesday about how the Pac-12 is going to operate over the next 12 months. A proposal: Pac-12 would pay some of the money for the transition costs for departing members.” Pac-12 attorney Mark Lambert began his remarks by referring to the league as the Pac-10 before contending the league’s remaining employees don't want to see "warring factions" in the Pac-12. Christovich: “IMO, they should be rooting for OSU/WSU to win this...they're the only schools that want the conf to survive.” Lambert also remarked the conference would prefer the future of the conference be figured out in a "frank discussion" of the Board of Directors. The judge subsequently noted that would be 10 v. 2 and asked: “How does that turn out?” Commissioner George Kliavkoff was reportedly in Montana, where he owns a home. (link)

Georgia Tech AD J Batt Q&As with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Chad Bishop and credits President Angel Cabrera with fully committing to athletics. “Part of the reason that I am here is that Dr. Cabrera stepped forward and said we’re going to make Georgia Tech athletics as good as the rest of the institute. … He helped us to the largest budget we’ve ever had at $128M. That’s a lot of the president supporting athletics and prioritizing it.” Batt also acknowledges that NIL is a priority and tells Bishop: “I think long-term the guardrails that we’ve all talked about in college athletics need to be put in place for the long-term sustainability of name, image and likeness. But it’s important we do it. … Our Tech Way fund has done an incredible job putting us into a competitive space from a name, image and likeness perspective in this great market.” On if more partnerships like the Yellow Jackets’ recent agreement with Hyundai are in the works, Batt says: “It’s a daily focus for us. We brought on board a chief revenue officer, one of the first things I did when I got here, to just wake up every morning and focus on revenue generation. We’ll explore any opportunities that are available. Whether that’s our corporate donorships, donor opportunities, facility enhancements, we’re going to wake up every day focused on driving revenue. It’s important to reestablishing where we want to be.” Full interview. (link)

Fox Sports is in negotiations with several conferences to hold a postseason men’s basketball tournament in Las Vegas, according to The Messenger’s Seth Davis, who reports the field would include the top 16 teams from the Big East, Big Ten and Big 12 who didn't make the NCAA Tournament. One source tells Davis this new tournament would “create more postseason opportunities in men’s basketball, and it would also open up more spots for mid-major schools to play in the NIT.” Davis adds: “Should the Fox tournament move forward, the possibility of NIL money for players will be critical, because it would otherwise be a challenge for schools to keep their rosters intact that long. … Basketball players who enter the transfer portal and/or the NBA draft tend to do so as soon as their seasons end. It would take a meaningful incentive to convince players to stick around for three more weeks.” (link)

The Athletic’s Dana O’Neil hears from multiple sources that expanding the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament “north of the current 68 but ideally less than 96 teams” could be the “best olive branch to prevent the real threat to the whole operation: namely that the football-playing schools opt out of the tourney altogether and form their own.” Former Michigan State AD Mark Hollis tells O’Neil: “It will 100% come down to how people handle it because there will be pressure. My concern is that the small problems evolve into something bigger, where people get so agitated they go off and do their own thing.’’ Former Princeton AD Gary Walters adds: “They made these decisions for financial reasons and for football. It should not impact the integrity of the NCAA Tournament at all. The NCAA Tournament is the last barometer of integrity in college athletics. I hope they don’t mess with it, but it’s going to take a lot of strength of character to maintain the balance of fairness.” (link)

Disney and Charter have ended their standoff and agreed to a deal through which Charter will pay higher rates for Disney’s channels in return for being able to provide the Disney+ and ESPN+ streaming services to its pay-TV subscribers. The Wall Street Journal’s Joe Flint: “Specifically, the ad-supported version of Disney+ will be included in Spectrum’s TV Select video packages, which are among the cable operator’s most popular. The ad-supported ESPN+ will be available to Charter customers who subscribe to a tier that includes other sports channels such as regional sports networks. In addition, when Disney releases its much-anticipated direct-to-consumer version of its ESPN cable channel – which is separate from ESPN+ – Charter pay-TV customers will be able to get it as well.” (link)

Former Fox Sports President Bob Thompson says some of the deal points “are all wins for Charter, and due to MFN's, the entire cable industry. Think skinny bundles with ala carte streaming options packaged with broadband.” (link)

Some Colorado students are finding it difficult to secure football tickets, according to the Boulder Daily Camera’s Olivia Doak, who explains that due to increased ticket demand, students who purchased a student sports pass must also go through a claim process to acquire tickets. A student sports pass costs $185, an increase of $20 from last year, and allows students to claim a ticket to home football and basketball games for the season. However, not every student who has a sports pass is guaranteed a ticket, and students without a pass can’t claim a ticket. CU Director of Communications/Chief Spokesperson Steve Hurlbert says everyone who was queued for Saturday’s game against Nebraska received a ticket and notes that students were informed at the time they purchased their sports passes that having one this year does not guarantee a ticket. “We’ve also added more student seating in Section 110 to try and accommodate student demand, but demand for all tickets has been unprecedented. We’re also obviously limited in that our stadium is 100 years old and seats just over 50K.” (link)

ACC Senior Assoc. Commissioner for Women's Basketball Jackie Carson sits down with Connect's Steph Garcia Cichosz to evaluate the women’s hoops landscape. Carson, who recently transitioned to the ACC after a 12-year career as the WBB HC at Furman, provides a unique look into issues of recruiting, the transfer portal, realignment, student-athlete mental health and NIL. Carson also discusses her shift to a conference office and her priorities for ACC women's basketball. Carson, who previously served as Furman’s HC, on her decision to take on an administrative role: “Serving on a various amount of NCAA committees kind of gave me a glimpse into athletic administration. So, if you'd asked me about this about a year ago, I had no idea what this position entailed and just the more that everything started to change – my passion is really impacting women, impacting student-athletes, and I do that through basketball and coaching. So, this opportunity came, and it gave me an opportunity to think about, ‘Hey I could shift this to 15 universities and think like a coach and empower women…and I can do that on a bigger scale.” Full Q&A on Connect. + Oklahoma OC Jeff Lebby has apologized after his father-in-law and former Baylor Football HC Art Briles appeared on the field with him after the Sooners’ matchup with SMU over the weekend. “[I] just want everyone to understand, my father-in-law, his presence on the field after the game is something that created a distraction and I apologize for that. That was not the intent at all. The intent was just to celebrate with my family. I do want to correct some reports that said that he had a sideline pass, he did not have a sideline pass given out. He was only on the field when other families were down there and were present. Joe Castiglione, Coach [Brent] Venables have both expressed concerns with me, talked to me about it to make sure that everyone understands that this is something that will not come up again." (link)
