GSC Commissioner Matt Wilson and Trevecca Nazarene AD Mark Elliott sit down with The George Plaster Show after the Trojan’s presser to join the league. Wilson on the future growth of the league: “We’ve got a football sponsorship issue in the Gulf South Conference. We’ve only got eight schools playing football next year and the following year we are down to five because of attrition due to affiliate members and some others leaving. We’ve got to figure out the football solution. We’ve got to get to eight schools, but I’d love for us to be 16 or 20 schools. The more the merrier. Let’s make our tournaments bigger. Let’s make our regular seasons bigger. Let’s bring everybody in.” Elliott believes the move will jumpstart the Trojans’ push for a new basketball arena as eight teams currently compete for floor space in their lone facility. The plans include a facility with three additional courts and seating for 1,500 with room for expansion. Fundraising plans will be unveiled at homecoming in early November with the hope of moving dirt next summer. (link)
