Franciscan names alum Daniel Andersen as its next AD. Andersen, who has spent 16 years as an attorney for the CIA's Office of General Counsel, will return to Steubenville this fall to get up to speed before starting full-time in January. SUNY Poly AD Megan Valentine is no longer leading the Wildcats after two years in Utica. Asst. for Compliance and Academic Success/SWA Kelly Colbert has been named Interim AD. (link)

The AMCC is teaming up with the Atlantic East for an associate membership in Men’s Tennis. The eight members who compete this season will work towards an AQ spot, with each conference’s teams competing in their own division to compete for an AE title. AMCC Commissioner Donna Ledwin: “The AMCC is always looking for ways to collaborate with other Division III conferences in our region. Facilitating affiliate membership with the Atlantic East for our institutions who sponsor men's tennis is a perfect example of that. We want to do everything we can to be sure our student-athletes have a post-season championship opportunity. This agreement also serves to bolster the sport of tennis in Division III. It's win-win all the way around.” (link) 

Of note from last week’s DIII Interpretations and Legislation Committee meeting, the DIII Management Council has approved eliminating the permission to contact requirement for NAIA student-athletes. Such a move would “establish consistency in recruitment of non-NCAA student-athletes and reduce confusion regarding which rules apply,” and mirrors legislation passed by the NAIA this summer regarding the recruitment of NCAA student-athletes. Fundraising & Facilities:

+ Blackburn has been awarded a $4.8M grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity to help facilitate the construction of a new $6M, 40K-plus square-foot indoor athletic practice facility. (link) 

+ Albertus Magnus has received a $3.1M grant from the State of Connecticut's Community Investment Fund 2030 to renovate the Falcons’ Celentano Field athletic complex and Ralph Walker Skating Rink. Celentano Field upgrades will include a new turf surface, ADA pathways, bleachers and more. Hockey rink renovations will feature a 1,500 square-foot expansion for locker rooms and training space. + Montclair State is partnering with NJIT (DI) on a $5.3M renovation for Yogi Berra Stadium which will become the home for both teams. Enhancements will include a new turf surface and upgrades to locker rooms, dugouts, VIP and press boxes and more. (link)

+ Muskingum raised $113K from a total of 1,012 donors during its first-ever Day of Giving event on September 7. (link)

+ The claim for first woman to step onto the gridiron in a non-kicking position now sits with WPI and Maria del Carmen Sacristan Benjet who appeared for the Engineers on Senior Day back in 2021. (link) 

+ Trinity (CT) has hired the first female Men’s Ice Hockey AC in DIII history in Maryland Black Bears (NAHL) Assoc. HC Kim Weiss. Bantams HC Matt Greason: "This is a huge opportunity for the program. Kim has spent years in the trenches of coaching to gain invaluable knowledge of the game and how to teach it.  I believe she is one of the best young coaches in the game and we are lucky to have her back home at Trinity.” (link)

York (NY) has appointed former Saint Peter’s (NCAA DI) Women’s Basketball AC Jason Marshall as Women’s Basketball HC. Interim AD Chris Monasch: “Coach Marshall has had numerous experiences at schools with various characteristics that will serve him well. Jason is the right person to recruit and develop the women in our program so that they will succeed both on the court and in the classroom." (link)
