Little Rock AD George Lee will step down and transition back to his previous role as Senior Assoc. AD once his successor is named, per the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's Mike Harley. Chancellor Christina Drale stating: "When George was first appointed, we planned for this to be a temporary arrangement until I could stabilize the university's finances and enrollment. [...] He led us through our own conference transition to the Ohio Valley Conference with new branding and new opportunities. George Lee has served us admirably as our Director of Athletics and I have no doubt that he will continue to support the success of our student athletes and the overall mission of our university." Army West Point’s move to the AAC appears increasingly likely and could happen in a matter of weeks, per Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger, who notes, though, that some hurdles remain. AAC Commissioner Mike Aresco: “We are definitely pursuing it. There’s a reasonable possibility it gets done. Army is interested. We certainly are.” Dellenger notes that as part of a potential agreement, Army would continue its annual rivalry game with Navy, but the “game will not count in the conference standings, and the two schools will not play in the regular season. However, they could meet in the conference championship game as the top two finishers in the regular season.” Dellenger also points out the Black Knights’ TV contract with CBS Sports Network extends through the 2028 season, and that unless ESPN and the AAC come to a financial settlement, the AAC would begin controlling Army’s home game broadcasting rights starting in 2029. As for the financial terms, Aresco declined to get into specifics but Dellenger notes the league “has reserve cash via exit fees of three recently departed members to the Big 12 (Houston, UCF and Cincinnati) and a soon-to-be departed member to the ACC (SMU).” (link)

Nebraska unveils plans for a $450M renovation to Memorial Stadium that includes the addition of a 360-degree main-level concourse and a 270-degree upper-level concourse. Additionally, the entire South Stadium would be removed and replaced, temporarily reducing capacity by 22K. The Athletic’s Mitch Sherman reports $225M will come from private funds and $225M will come via athletic department, university and other sources. When complete, the overall capacity is expected to be reduced by 8K to 10K. Huskers AD Trev Alberts notes NU will take a “hard look” at the grandfather clause that allows longtime season-ticket holders to maintain seating priority regardless of donor status. “We’re going to have the courage to address all of it.” The project is pending approval from the NU Board of Regents. Charlotte is the recipient of a $25M pledge from real estate magnate Smoky Bissell to support an $81M expansion of Jerry Richardson Stadium. The gift was contingent on Charlotte matching the amount, which it has done thanks to an allocation from the state legislature. 49ers AD Mike Hill says fundraising is currently $19M short of the $81M. The school has hired architecture firm McMillan Pazdan Smith to design the expansion, which will double the stadium’s capacity to 30K. (link)

The new 11K-sq-ft facility will serve as home to both the soccer and softball programs and features dedicated locker rooms, offices, training turf with batting cages, athletic training and nutrition space, and a team room/classroom. Hilltoppers AD Todd Stewart: “The completion of this complex now marks over $14M we have invested into our sport programs since 2014, and in 2025, upon the completion of our new press box and the Hilltopper Fieldhouse, we will be in the best position from a facilities standpoint in the history of WKU Athletics." We offer our deepest condolences to friends and family of former NCAA Men’s Basketball Coordinator of Officiating John Adams following news of his passing. NCAA SVP of Basketball Dan Gavitt: “On behalf of members of the Division I Men's Basketball Committee and NCAA staff who were fortunate to work with John Adams, we would like to express our sympathy to his family, friends, and colleagues on John's passing. John was an accomplished official at the high school level and across all three divisions of the NCAA, and his reputation as an expert evaluator and his knowledge of the game's playing rules led to him being selected as the national coordinator of officiating in 2008. He held that position for seven years, during which he played an integral role in ensuring officials were provided with clear interpretation of playing rules and officiating mechanics that contributed to the overall growth of the game and March Madness." For all its other enforcement issues, the NCAA “has its house in order” when it comes to policing sports wagering, On3’s Eric Prisbell observes. He notes that as of this summer the NCAA had 17 active investigations and, since 2018, has found more than 175 infractions of its sports-betting policy. Still, there are several cases that slip through the cracks, according to U.S. Integrity CEO Matt Holt, who tells Prisbell: “What I always say is, ‘Look, we catch the really dumb people. We catch the less sophisticated people. We’re catching all the ones that we’re supposed to.’ But at some point, we need to get the same level of data in the same timeliness as the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) in the financial services market. We need to get 100% of the bets in the country funneling through a system and identifying abnormalities in real-time.” (link)

Meanwhile, a former Air Force men's golf head coach violated NCAA rules by knowingly gambling on sports, including placing bets on Falcons football games, according to an agreement released by the Committee on Infractions. An additional recruiting violation occurred in the men's ice hockey program, when two assistant coaches had recruiting conversations with a potential transfer student-athlete who had not yet entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. From the COI: “The violations occurred when the coach created an account for an online sports wagering program using his then girlfriend's identification information because he knew NCAA rules prohibited participating in wagering on sports (at any level) that the NCAA sponsors. Over the course of four months, he wagered $9,259 on 253 occasions – including both professional and college sports – using that account. Of those wagers, 107 were on NCAA events, including six Air Force football games.” Penalties include, but are not limited to, a five-year show-cause for the former men's golf head coach, a one-year show-cause for each of the men's ice hockey assistant coaches and two-week prohibition in all recruiting communications in men's ice hockey. The guy with a thick binder standing next to several football head coaches got that binder from Championship Analytics, Inc. (CAI), according to The Athletic’s Max Olson, who notes the coaches use CAI’s analytics to inform crucial in-game decisions. After starting with Troy in 2013, CAI now has 84 FBS clients, including 21 of the current top 25 teams, along with two dozen FCS teams and six NFL teams. Olson: “The Power 5 teams that most frequently go for it on fourth down – Ole Miss, Baylor and Texas Tech – all swear by their CAI game book. Mike McRoberts, its founder and president, touts that CAI clients won 63% of their games against non-clients in 2022. The rise of coaches embracing data for these high-pressure moments continues to change the game. At the FBS level, fourth-down attempts have increased 28% since 2013.” Teams get new books each week with probabilities, success expectancies and other data for scenarios ranging from when to go for it on fourth down to when to perform an onside kick. More from Olson. McRoberts: “We noticed there really wasn’t any tools out there to help make those decisions in real time. So it’s like, all right, what if we can put some charts in the hands of people so when these scenarios came up, they at least have that mathematical recommendation? I certainly didn’t think that one day it was gonna grow into what it is today. It’s been pretty incredible.” (link)
