#9: Franciscan names alum Daniel Andersen as its next AD. Andersen, who has spent 16 years as an attorney for the CIA's Office of General Counsel, will return to Steubenville this fall to get up to speed before starting full-time in January. VP of Student Life Dan Dentino: "Athletics is an integral part of Franciscan University and provides an exciting opportunity for us to live our core values of encounter, conversion, and community. Danny Andersen is the right person to build on Franciscan's unique athletics history and charism of forming joyful disciples while being a light to all whom we encounter both on and off the field." #7: Mount Saint Vincent has upgraded Marillac Field after a $1.5M project that includes new turf, scoreboard and more. Next on the facility front is a new video board in the Sharp Center. AD Phil Stern on the Marillac: “We now have the best facility in the Skyline Conference. It is something that not only showcases us within our conference but in the region as well. … Dr. Burns has been as supportive as a president could be since arriving here. Her coupled with the board of directors gives us some cachet to make a difference in the lives of our student-athletes and we are able to do some things other Division III schools cannot.” (link)

#6: Of note from last week’s DIII Interpretations and Legislation Committee meeting, the DIII Management Council has approved eliminating the permission to contact requirement for NAIA student-athletes. Such a move would “establish consistency in recruitment of non-NCAA student-athletes and reduce confusion regarding which rules apply,” and mirrors legislation passed by the NAIA this summer regarding the recruitment of NCAA student-athletes. #5: As reports of Shenandoah football student-athlete Haley Van Voorhis becoming the first non-kicker woman to play in an NCAA game captured headlines, D3football notes Fitchburg State’s Taylor Crout actually appeared for the Falcons two weeks ago. #2: The Washington Square News’ Ania Keenan of the NYU student newspaper reports on-leave NYU AD Stuart Robinson was the subject of a Title IX sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuit while the AD at SUNY New Paltz. The suit stemmed from remarks made to a former coach and failing to provide equitable resources to women’s teams and was ultimately ruled in summary judgment against the university, which paid an undisclosed amount to the plaintiff staffer.
