Thomas Jefferson AD/Women's Basketball HC Tom Shirley will step down as AD in August 2024, but remain on the sideline for the Rams. Shirley: “I have witnessed ‘the three names’ of the University during my career to date. Each one brought a different vantage point and a different mode of operation, but all three brought fulfillment and satisfaction. The common denominator was always the student-athletes and what an outstanding group they have been. [...] While I will pass the torch as director of athletics, I am extremely excited to continue at the University as the head coach for women’s basketball. It’s been a terrific experience. If I was able to do it again, I would do it at the same institution, in the same career. I had the opportunity to do something I thoroughly enjoyed. Lincoln (PA) AD Harry Stinson, III gets the bump to Interim VP of Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the Lincoln University Foundation. Stinson: “Our goal is to ensure that our students have every resource possible to realize their full potential to Learn, Liberate and Lead during their time here at Lincoln University and beyond. The D2 ADA and MOAA are teaming up to provide increased access for minority leaders and create a new at-large seat on the D2 ADA Board of Directors. Winston-Salem State AD Etienne Thomas will serve in the three-year post. D2 ADA President/Cal State Monterey Bay AD Kirby Garry: "We are grateful to partner with MOAA with this newly created position within our Board structure and look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come. Last week, the DII Championships Committee considered a number of sport-specific changes. The committee supported an expansion of the Baseball squad size by one to coincide with an existing increase set to begin for the 2025 championship, further review of the baseball visible pitch clock implementation by 2025 and adjusting the minimum contest requirements for golf to 50 DII opponents or half of the total opponents in DII with at least 40 in-region DII opponents. A group of nine GOP governors this week sent a letter to the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports concerning the NCAA’s transgender student-athlete policy. They write: “Science proves that it is fundamentally unfair for a biological male to compete against a biological female – that does not change when someone declares themselves as being of a different gender. The National Institutes for Health found that there is on average a 10% difference between the top performing males and females in athletic competition. In high-level athletic competition, a 10% difference is massive – and can even be insurmountable. … The reason why is simple: biological men are generally taller, faster, stronger, and have more testosterone than biological women. This puts women, through no fault of their own, at a disadvantage when they are required to compete against a biological male.” Citing a lack of federal action, the governors continue: “It is our responsibility to care for our constituents, and we are doing all we can to protect the fairness of athletics in our states. Now, it is time for the NCAA to do the same and make the best decision for all of your athletes. We strongly encourage you to rewrite your Transgender Student Athlete Policy to protect, preserve, and encourage fairness in women’s athletics.” (link)

Incoming DII member Jessup will acquire Multnomah (NAIA) as a satellite campus. Per the FAQ page, the institutions plan to continue athletics at Multnomah while the main Jessup campus begins its transition to DII. (link, link)
