Northwestern (IA) AD Tony Hoops sits down with Midwest Sports Net’s Joe McWilliams to talk about his vision for the Raiders following the successes over his first six months as AD. Hoops’ focus extends beyond winning, stating: “We really want to focus on how many lives can we impact and we get to do that through the great game of sport. […] I would say if the only goal is that we want to win championships, eventually, that'll never be enough. It'll be this shallow feeling. […] And so for us, it's the daily standard and as we look to the future here, I want to continue to enhance that daily standard. That's, that's growing our coaches through professional development and doing some things in the summer, that's continuing to connect with our alumni, that's continuing to provide resources whether that be through funding or scholarship and whether that might be. Those are the things that really drive us towards it, so can we always expect to be in the national championship game? Well, of course I'd love to be, but at the end of the day if that's our only goal, you'll sacrifice whatever it takes to get there and I don't want us or our coaches ever feel that they have to be in that situation.” (link)

INFORUM’s Mike McFeely continues on rumblings of a Dakota Athletic Conference revival, writing: “There are about 100 moving parts to re-forming something resembling the old DAC, especially considering some schools are currently NAIA and some are Division II. But make no mistake, there is a stomach for it. […] Helping the momentum is recent legislation from the NCAA that guarantees every Division II conference an automatic bid into postseason championships in every sport except football if the league has 10 members. So a reformed DAC, once postseason-eligible, would get automatic access to Division II national tournaments in men's and women's basketball and all other sports (other than football). […] It's going to take somebody in power in the small colleges in the Dakotas to stand up and publicly force a discussion about this before it really moves forward.” (link)

Yahoo’s Jeff Eisenberg profiles LSU-Shreveport Men’s and Women’s Basketball HC Kyle Blankenship, who identifies the biggest hurdle with both roles was having to build trust with the WBB team holding his first practice just 11 days before the season opener. Blankenship pinpoints the turning point to a November 17 win over Philander Smith when he traveled over 400 miles from the MBB game the day before and making it to the game, stating: “I tell people all the time I think that was the watershed moment. I think that’s when they realized, ‘Hey, this is for real. Coach Blank is 100% with us.’” AD Lucas Morgan says “It’s not out of the realm of possibility” that Blankenship continues in both roles beyond this season, adding: “I don’t know if Kyle wants to do it. I don’t know if it’s sustainable long-term. We just want to make sure that we continue to ride the momentum that has been created this year, so we have to figure out what the best thing is for our program.” (link)

Ottawa (AZ) Men’s and Women’s Golf HC Tina Barrett gets the profile treatment from Cronkite News’ Brett Lapinski as one of just seven women leading Men’s Golf programs. After previously serving as an AC and being a 19-year LPGA pro, Barrett: “I just let my players get to know me. I feel like having an LPGA background gives me some credibility, but you still have to prove that you know your stuff. I also think good coaches figure out what their players’ goals are and help them reach their goals. It doesn’t matter if you’re male or female, that’s my job. […] The main thing is your players need to trust in your abilities to know the X’s and O’s and that you care about them as people first. Once they have that – regardless of gender – coaches will be fine.” (link)

Coming off of the program’s first Red Banner, Keiser Football HC Doug Socha is headed to Lenoir-Rhyne (NCAA DII) in the same capacity. The Seahawks promote Asst. HC Myles Russ to succeed Socha. AD Kris Swogger. "Not only is Coach Russ a Day One guy, but he embodies all the qualities that the program was built on...hard-work, good character, family, trust, and he is a proven winner. I still view us as a young program with a lot of things to achieve, and I look forward to the future of the program under Coach Russ's leadership.” (link)
