#8: Following the installation of its new 28’x28’ $157K scoreboard at Ray Dennison Memorial Field during Football season, Fort Lewis AD Travis Whipple is excited for the videoboard to be full go. “We’re striving to have the best game environment. We’ve seen some awesome increases in fan attendance and participation, and I think elements like this just continue to take it to another level. […] Our setting is the most beautiful in all of Division II , and we really wanted to make this upgrade and innovation to our game environment. … It’s something that Fort Lewis students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans in the community will all benefit from.” Beyond FB, the board will be used for Lacrosse and more, with Whipple noting: “We’re finding that we continue to have more and more uses for such a video board on campus.” (link)

#5: Financial challenges for Saint Augustine’s continue as the institution has been hit with a $7.9M lien from the IRS “for unpaid taxes dating back to the end of 2020.” Other liens include $598K from FieldTurf USA from this past December for failing to pay for its new turf field and nearly $430K from Wellfleet Insurance for student health insurance deductibles. #4: Wheeling has relieved President Ginny Favade of her duties and suspended her with pay. Director of Education Programs/H.E.S.S. Program Coordinator Dianna Vargo will serve as Interim COO and work with the Board of Trustees to “ensure that all functions of the University continue without disruption.” (link)

#3: Western Oregon has canceled the rest of its Women’s Basketball season citing “internal team challenges. The decision reflects a commitment to addressing and resolving issues impacting the program. Importantly, the athletic department makes it clear the internal challenges leading to the season cancellation are not related to Title IX matters.” All impacted contests will be counted as forfeit losses. AD Randi Lydum: “This difficult choice is disappointing for all parties involved, and we acknowledge the impact on the athletes, coaching staff and the broader university community. The decision to cancel the season aligns with the highest standards of integrity and accountability within our program.
