#10: The America East has unveiled a new logo as part of a rebrand, which ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports will roll out this week and is centered on the phrase “Where Champions Rise.” (link); America East Commissioner Brad Walker on the league’s brand refresh and new logo: “What's most important is having something that differentiates ourselves as far as putting out our message of who we are, what we're committed to. But specifically around the mark, [we wanted] something that was more distinct and bold and said our name specifically, [that] this is who we are.” The new mark and color scheme, which were unveiled yesterday, were developed in partnership with Legend Labs and pay homage to the league’s membership along I-95. A soft implementation will occur on campuses through the end of this academic year, with full integration set for 2024-25. (link)

#9: Fairleigh Dickinson’s ill-fated elevator ride at LIU had a silver lining, as the school reports it garnered over 140.2M impressions across, TV, social media, radio and online publications. All told, the incident netted the Knights over $12M in publicity value. First & First Consulting Founder/CEO Devon Zdatny: “While the incident itself was quite entertaining, I thought how FDU followed up on the moment on social media was brilliant. We're constantly pushing our clients to be unafraid to have fun at their own expense. FDU embraced this moment with humor and fearlessness. It's a best-in-class example I'll be using with clients for many years to come.” (link)

#6: Former Nebraska women’s basketball student-athlete Ashley Scoggin has filed a lawsuit against the university alleging Huskers AD Trev Alberts and WBB HC Amy Williams failed to take appropriate action when her romantic relationship with Huskers AC Chuck Love became widely known. In a complaint filed in federal court, Scroggin alleges Love took a special interest in her and that the relationship turned sexual, causing Scoggin to fear retaliation if she refused to engage in it. Per the AP: “On the night before a game at Penn State in February 2022, team members and practice players created a ruse to confirm and videotape Scoggin's presence in Love's hotel room. A male practice player falsely represented himself to the desk clerk as Love to obtain a duplicate room key. Two team members confronted Scoggin in Love's room. They reported their findings and showed the video to Williams.” From the suit: “Williams cast Ashley in the role of a seducer and a liar. She allowed the players to berate and accuse Ashley for hours. … NU, Williams and Alberts allowed the speculation and perception to fester that Ashley was ‘equally to blame’ or otherwise had done something improper when they should have sent a clear message that it is always improper for a professional coach to pursue a sexual relationship with a student-athlete.” (link)

#3: Adidas is partnering with Fear of God Athletics to launch collections for the Indiana and Miami (FL) men’s and women’s basketball teams. Have a look at the jerseys the programs will wear over the next two weeks. (link); Indiana Deputy AD/COO Stephen Harper weighs in on the Hoosiers’ Adidas x Fear of God basketball jerseys, which proved to be unpopular among fans: "We're as traditional as the fans are. We like the traditional uniforms. You know, Adidas has been a good partner for us in the department, and from time to time, they do like to bring special products that they think will excite the players, excite recruits, those kinds of things. That was an example of that. Obviously, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We heard a lot from fans that didn't necessarily love those, which we understand. We don't plan on moving away from the traditional look of Indiana basketball, which, again, means a lot to us. … I meet a lot of our recruits as they come in to tell them about the opportunities that we have in the department, and you'll see a lot of our recruits wearing that brand. So I think it's meaningful to them, even though it's not meaningful to everyone else." (link)

#2: Colorado State AD Joe Parker will “step back” from his position and serve as special advisor to CSU President Amy Parsons. He will be succeeded on an interim basis by John Weber, the executive director of the Rams-focused Green and Gold Guard collective. Parsons on Parker: “Joe has been instrumental to all of our athletic programs’ success during his tenure at CSU. On behalf of the entire Ram community, I want to sincerely thank Joe for his leadership and commitment to building a program that values and strives for excellence on the field and in the classroom. … The Rams aspire to play at the highest levels, and that means we have to look at innovative ways to support our student-athletes and coaches as well as engage our fans, alumni, students, faculty, staff and donors. Over the last year, I have spent time assessing and evaluating our athletics program, and navigating the rapidly changing landscape will require a new style of leadership.” Parsons adds of Weber: “John has built the Green and Gold Guard from scratch, and as part of that incredible effort he has earned the respect and trust of our coaches, student-athletes and supporters. Not only is he on the sidelines of nearly every game, but John is engaged on the national level with the fast-changing intricacies of NIL and seeking new and innovative ways to support all of CSU’s student-athletes and programs. I am confident in John’s capacity to take on this interim role.” (link)
