#10: NCAA President Charlie Baker reacted to the NIL decision in Tennessee: “You’re talking about 95 percent of colleges that probably spend somewhere between ... $40 million and $5 million on college sports, and they lose money. They don’t have TV contracts and nobody can look at their income statements or balance sheets and conclude there would be a way for them to make money. [...] I think in the end, we are going to need Congress to do something. Because people will draw a lot of conclusions from court decisions. And then there will be new ones. [...] I think the most important thing here is let's deal with some of the issues around accountability and transparency and consumer protections first. And if we then want to have a conversation about other stuff, about how this should all work, especially if we get to the point where we give schools the ability to do more in this space, I'm all-in on that.” (link, link)

#4: Eastern Tennessee District Judge Clifton Corker has issued a preliminary injunction for the attorneys general in Tennessee and Virginia, thus suspending NCAA NIL rules. Corker: “In an apparent attempt to prohibit those (recruiting) inducements, the NCAA issued guidance classifying NIL collectives as ‘boosters’ to prevent them from negotiating with student-athletes during the recruiting and transfer processes. The NCAA's prohibition likely violates federal antitrust law and harms student-athletes. Accordingly, (plaintiffs) are entitled to a preliminary injunction enjoining enforcement of the NCAA's 'NIL-recruiting ban.’” From the injunction: “It is further ORDERED that, effective immediately, the NCAA is restrained and enjoined from enforcing the Rule of Restitution as applied to the foregoing NIL activities until a full and final decision on the merits in the instant action.” (link, link)
