Albion selects Young Harris (DII) AD Jennifer Rushton as its next AD, starting June 1. Northland launches a fundraising campaign to raise $12M by April 3 to remain open beyond this year, stating “If the funding goals are not met, the College will be forced to begin the closure process at the end of this academic year.” More from NC: “Funds raised will be used to support a transition year (the 2024-2025 academic year) and the exploration and creation of a new Northland model. The current academic year will continue as planned.” Board of Trustees Chair Ted Bristol: “Northland College has reached a critical crossroad. We believe we can reinvent Northland, carrying forward our legacy and advancing our mission in a meaningful way. But that will only be possible with the funding in place.” (link)

Regent (NCCAA) has been accepted for an exploratory year of membership in DIII in 2024-25. AD Michael Allen: "Receiving the invitation for exploratory membership is the next step in attaining our end goal of full membership in NCAA Division III. We know there is still much to be done. However, we are excited to walk down this God-ordained path. We appreciate the guidance from the NCAA and our sponsoring institution, Christopher Newport University. NCAA CMO Brian Hainline announces his retirement, effective May 31. Hainline, who was appointed as the NCAA’s first chief medical officer in 2013, also founded and oversaw the NCAA Sport Science Institute. (link)

The NCAA announces Home Depot as its newest corporate partner in time for March Madness. Through the three-year partnership, Home Depot will have rights across all 90 NCAA championships, including the DI women's and men's basketball tournaments. NCAA SVP of Basketball Dan Gavitt: "We are thrilled to welcome The Home Depot, one of the most recognized brands in college sports, to the NCAA Corporate Champions and Partners Program. We appreciate Home Depot extending its support of college student-athletes to NCAA Championships, which includes March Madness. Buena Vista hires prep coach/alumna Kylee Boettcher as Women’s Basketball HC. Interim AD Amy Maier: “Kylee's desire to be the next head women's basketball coach at Buena Vista University, combined with her experience and relationships as an alum, connections locally and throughout the state, and her coaching successes, made her stand out during our process. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has rescinded the state's NIL Executive Order to "preserve the competitiveness of North Carolina post-secondary institutions in college athletics,” calling it “no longer necessary” in light of Tennessee vs. NCAA. (link)

+ Wisconsin-La Crosse selects Keene State Provost/VP for Academic Affairs James Beeby as its 11th chancellor. (link)

+ A report from an independent monitor believes New Jersey City should analyze “what all of our options are and what might be best,” writing specifically: “One of the most pivotal recommendations is for NJCU to reconstitute as Jersey City College, a campus of a larger mission-aligned system with its own chancellor and attendant support, but one integrated into a larger system or institution. Although there is a narrow pathway for NJCU to become an independent city university, it is one that would require far greater investment from the State than is presently appropriated, and such a path would remain fraught with numerous, significant challenges.” (link)

+ Birmingham-Southern President Daniel Coleman is confident that a new state senate bill that passed the house earlier this month will provide the college critical funding. Coleman adding: “Our enrollment is down a bit, in part because we helped about 20% of our students transfer last year, thinking that we weren’t sure if we were going to make it, and employment’s down a bit. Frankly, I think we can turn this around pretty quickly, and surpass those numbers that were published last year. But given where we were, we thought it was prudent to run the numbers one more time. […] “I’m cautiously optimistic that our enrollment will be flat year over year approximately, and that we’ll be laying the foundation to grow this back to where it should be very quickly over the next two to three years.” (link)
