"The knowledge Drew Turner and his team bring from their years as on-campus practitioners and the depth of relationships they have across the industry were invaluable during our recent Head Men's Basketball Coach search. I would not hesitate in recommending Collegiate Sports Associates or partnering with them again in the future." - Mike Hill, Director of Athletics at UNC Charlotte

#9: Arizona AD Desireé Reed-Francois Q&As with the Arizona Daily Star’s Justin Spears and outlines the five priorities on which she will focus during the early part of her tenure. They include people, university alignment, budget, infrastructure and external constituents. Reed-Francois explains she has had everyone fill out a SWOT analysis and has begun “meeting with every single staff member. I want to find out about their motivations. Why do they work at the University of Arizona? Who are they as people? We’ve got to get to know our people.” Reed-Francois also explains: “I have to analyze our budget. It’s not so that we can just balance a budget. We have to build a model business. As an athletic director, you’re the CEO of a $150M company. You gotta build a business model that is based upon your core values, the student-athletes have to be at the center of what we do — and make no mistake about it, we’re a high-performing business.” There are also three to five special projects the department will focus on this quarter: “No. 1 being NIL. We have to analyze what’s working, what’s not working and how can we shore that up? Are we skating to where the puck is going? Or are we satisfied with where the puck is? ... I don’t know what’s working here — I’m only on Day 7 — and what’s not. That’s going to be part of that analysis.” More from Reed-Francois. (link, link)

#7: Former Wisconsin AD/Football HC Barry Alvarez with strong thoughts on the impact of NIL during a radio interview with ESPN Wisconsin: “It’s going to ruin college football as we know it. It’s out of control and unsustainable. The paying of the players. It’s supposed to be illegal for coaches to use cash to recruit players, but that’s exactly what is happening. [...] I just see the whole thing blowing up unless we have some drastic changes. It’s just out of control, unsustainable, it’s going to screw up college football.” (link)

#6: Arizona State Deputy AD Jean Boyd talks about his decision to retire in May and tells 247Sports’ Chris Karpman that neither the investigation into the football program’s recruiting violations nor the school’s AD search factor into his departure. Instead, he says his desire to live full-time with his wife of less than two years and with her children requires him to do so in Colorado. "Over the holiday window of time, my wife and I spent a lot of time contemplating [the] best next steps for our family development. And it became clear to me that with the dynamics of being in two different places, changes that are happening, et cetera, that it was time for me to close out this chapter of my ASU career. … The reality of it is my entire adult life, not just career but life, has been shaped by ASU, with many unbelievable, unbelievably positive and progressive experiences, and obviously, some very challenging and negative ones as well. If it weren't for the family [situation], I would continue in a reinvigorated manner to try to help my alma mater be as dynamic as it can be moving forward." (link)

#4: No team plane for Texas AD Chris Del Conte, who “took off on the open road in his Chevy truck Tuesday morning, bound for the Big 12 men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.” Why? Del Conte tells the Austin American-Statesman’s Kirk Bohls: “Why not?” He adds: “Peace and quiet. You can think, you can reflect. No people coming in and out of your office. All the chaos around you. It’s good to just get in your car or truck. A lot of ideas come on an empty road. Once in a while, you’ll have a gem. Right now, I’m just looking at windmills, trying to pretend I’m not Don Quixote. … Just me and a bunch of 18-wheelers. Hitting the black pavement. Becoming one with America.” Del Conte also points out that he has “not spent a dime in the state of Oklahoma. Just passing through. … I don’t mind paying for gas in Texas. Got to keep our boys in West Texas happy.” (link)
