#6: From the Winter DII Presidents and Management Council meetings, the DII Management Council introduced NIL legislation for possible action next month that would continue to prohibit institutions from compensating student-athletes, remove restrictions on services that can be provided for student-athletes, clarifying that entities closely aligned or officially affiliated with institutions are subject to institutional standards, clearly define an NIL entity, eliminate regulations governing communication between schools and NIL entities provided the institution does not provide “direct or indirect financial support or institutional assets,” and prohibit NIL entities from contacting or engaging with prospective student-athletes, those at other institutions or their representatives. The Presidents Council sponsored a pair of legislative proposals for the 2025 NCAA Convention: eliminate 18-semester/27-quarter hour recruitment for eligibility and removing the English, math and science requirements for two-year college transfers. Also of note, for membership-sponsored legislative proposals, the DII Executive Board will now only take a position if the proposal has a significant financial impact on DII or its members. (link)
