The GNAC will elevate Assoc. Commissioner/SWA Bridget Johnson Tetteh to succeed Commissioner Dave Haglund, starting July 1. NCAA SVP for Policy and Governance Kevin Lennon joins AthleticDirectorU’s Jason Belzer to discuss his new role, the challenges and opportunities facing the NCAA and more, including how to build consensus, and Lennon explains: “It isn't easy and candidly, in earlier days, I think there was more homogeneity around all of our institutions, whether they be in Divisions I, II and III. The size of budgets, the way they operated and that is clearly changed and that has exacerbated a little bit of the problem. How, within this big tent, if we were just to focus on Division I where the budgets are, there’s so much disparity…how do you have them come together to do something that's for the best for the whole thing? I think part of that answer is we need to make sure that we're allowing those who have the highest resources to make decisions in ways that are appropriate for them. And the more homogeneity you can get around the decisions – and if that means consolidating some of those around different sets of high-resource institutions – I think you make better decisions moving forward with change.” Lennon also says he’s “encouraged” by the SEC and the Big Ten taking the initiative to lead by forming a joint advisory group, telling Belzer: “This is an opportunity to provide some leadership at this critical point in time within our association, so I applaud them for that. Their profile of those institutions, the platform that they have, puts them in a position of leadership, and so I'm really encouraged that they're kind of taking these issues on directly in that regard.” The board members from both conferences, Lennon adds, “supported the holistic model that, you know, raise the boats in support for all of the institutions within Division I, not just the things that they’re doing.” When asked what he believes the NCAA will look like in five years, Lennon notes that evolution is what is occurring now, “but I do think there will always be a need for a national organization. You can't have national competitions among highly competitive people, highly competitive schools without some set of national regulations. So that will exist. It’ll simply be where our membership, where Congress, where others want us to spend our time… and that may cause some reevaluations of things that we don't need to be involved in.” Full interview on ADU. The DII Championships Committee approved a regional realignment for Women’s Lacrosse that will see the following alignment starting in 2024-25: Atlantic Region - MEC, PSAC, SAC; East Region - CACC, ECC, NE10; Midwest Region - GLIAC, GLVC, GMAC, RMAC; and South Region: Conference Carolinas, GSC, SSC. The Men’s Lacrosse Committee decided against any alignment changes as the bracket is set to expand in 2025. DII Baseball representatives did not support the Management Council’s request to delay the implementation of an action clock for the 2025 season, citing “the impact on the student-athlete being able, with no visible clock, to properly understand where they are within the time limit during play.” The requirement will still be effective for the 2025 season. INFORUM’s Mike McFeely pens on the transfer portal movement in DII, noting that according to data from Verbal Commits, over 300 DII student-athletes have entered the portal as of Wednesday. Northern State Men’s Basketball HC Saul Phillips: “It's the equivalent of the NBA signing everybody to one-year contracts. It would be absolute chaos, which we have in the college game right now,. Is it healthy for the sport? Absolutely not. Is it going to change in any meaningful way? Absolutely not. College coaches were once long-term investors. Now we're day-traders.” More. (link)

+ Newberry’s MacLean Gymnasium has undergone a series of renovations, including refinishing the playing surface, new windows and HVAC, that will make it a new practice space for Acrobatics & Tumbling, Dance and more. (link)

Lake Erie will add STUNT as its 18th varsity sport, starting spring 2026. Storm AD Molly Hoffman: “With the Great Midwest Athletic conference hosting a conference championship and the rise and impact of woman sports across the country we felt this was the right time to add it our institution. We look forward to bringing this up-and-coming sport to campus and can't wait for our first student-athletes to join this program.” (link) 

The NCAA recently debuted "Change," a 30-second video highlighting important reforms underway at the Association. The spot premiered on Selection Sunday and will run throughout the men’s and women’s hoops tournaments. The spot will also remain in rotation over the next year in broadcast, at NCAA championships and on NCAA-owned social platforms. (link)
