With Providence Women’s Basketball tipping off for a chance to win a Red Banner, 406 MT Sports’ Daniel Shepard profiles how the Argos and HC Bill Himmelberg utilized NIL to make a difference in recruiting. With UP’s top earners bringing in “thousands,” Shepard notes: “Himmelberg’s resources as owner/operator of McDonald’s in Great Falls, in addition to hundreds and thousands of dollars available through other opportunities on Opendorse, allow Providence to compete with fellow conference members and NCAA Division I programs for recruits.” Himmelberg stating more directly that there’s no question NIL has made a difference in recruiting, adding: “I’m talking to three girls right now [in recruiting] I couldn’t talk to if we didn’t have NIL money. […] I think we’re probably at the forefront [in the Frontier]. You gotta have some resources to be able to do it. Fortunately, I’m able to have the resources to do it.” (link)

Garry Rosenfield, Coaches Agent for Coaches Inc., discusses his process for valuing coaches contracts and why he believes agents are an asset in terms of representation. 

• Football sets the standard for contracts across sports

• Counsel can be necessary beyond negotiating contracts

Tennessee Wesleyan announces a department restructuring that will see Men’s Basketball HC Ray Stone promoted to Asst. AD for Internal Operations and Men’s Golf HC Jeff Rice elevated to Director of Golf, while continuing to oversee the Men's program. AD Donny Mayfield: “The athletics programs at Tennessee Wesleyan continue to compete at a very high level. To maintain a competitive advantage, we must invest in our programs. Currently, we have almost 400 student-athletes competing around the nation. I am appreciative of the resources to build on the successes of Jeff and Ray, and the many coaches that came before them, and continue to work with them in their new roles.” TWU will begin search for HCs for both programs. Game Plan is expanding its partnership with Wells Fargo and will offer “free financial education to all 1,200 collegiate athletic departments – including those at 107 HBCUs, courtesy of Wells Fargo.” Game Plan CEO Mike Banville: “With the NCAA life skills mandate being implemented in August and at a time when student-athletes stand to gain more than ever through NIL, this is the perfect time to offer this enhanced financial education program.” (link)
