#8: More DIII membership moves from last month’s DIII Membership Committee meetings including Penn State Brandywine (USCAA) being approved for its provisional membership process with the Nittany Lions to join the United East. In addition to Regent (NCCAA), Johnson & Wales Charlotte (USCAA) and Mayville State (NAIA) have been approved for an exploratory year of membership in 2024-25. A new single-sport Field Hockey conference will come online in 2024-25, with the SAA approved to create the Collegiate Field Hockey Conference. (link, link)

#4: After advancing to the Sweet 16, Keene State Men’s Basketball Acting HC David Hastings will not be considered for the permanent position due to his lack of a bachelor’s degree as is required by the University System of New Hampshire, per The Keene Sentinel’s Michael McMahon. Hastings: “I am disappointed that my history of service to my country and to my community in law enforcement and my collective service isn’t viewed in a way that makes me eligible. I think my background is pretty good. I don’t have a piece of paper that says I went to school. ... I was confident that I was going to be able to keep this job and that something would be figured out. It’s a shame.” President Melinda Treadwell: This is not about David’s performance, but it is about disrupting structures across our system that are intentional and designed to recruit coaches in a way that is consistent and in the best interest of our respective institutions. #3: Wisconsin-Platteville names Fort Lewis (DII) Deputy AD for External Relations/former North Central (MN) AD Michael Knipe as its next AD, starting May 13. Chancellor Tammy Evetovich: "He brings a lot of energy, as well as a deep understanding of NCAA DIII athletics and a passion for what makes UW-Platteville unique. He is an excellent fit for our university and will further the exceptional work happening in Athletics." (link)

#2: Bluffton announces its plans to merge with Findlay (DII), starting in 2025-26. From the university: "Through this merger, the universities would position themselves to provide increased educational opportunities that prepare current and future students to lead and serve in their local communities and beyond. Students and employees would benefit from access to expanded resources on both campuses located 20 miles apart in Northwest Ohio. A goal of the proposed merger is to innovate in response to the changing climate of higher education while honoring individual campus traditions." Pending NCAA approval after the merger is complete, both institutions would continue to operate their own athletics programs. (link)

#1: St. Norbert Men’s Hockey HC Tim Coghlin was suspended for the Green Knights’ quarterfinal game against Adrian for “an act of misconduct following a first-round game against St. Olaf College.” Upon appeal, Coghlin’s suspension was upheld. (link)
