The future of the NAIA Men’s Basketball tournament in Kansas City is unknown, as The Kansas City Star’s Toriano Porter questions if it should remain in light of the association’s new transgender policy. This was the final year of the roughly $100K per year multi-year contract. Per a city representative: “The Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund did not approve funds for the NAIA this year or the previous fiscal year.” Porter gets this from Kansas City LGBTQ Commission Chair Justice Horn: “The NAIA has implemented an anti-trans policy that bars an entire group of people from competing while also upholding the misogynistic view that women hold a disadvantage in athletic competition. If the NAIA’s intent was truly for fairness, their policy would reflect both sides of competition, not just women’s athletics. This policy is anti-trans and upholds age-old ideas that women are inherently weaker than men.” (link); Human Rights Campaign President Kelley Robinson released the following statement: “Today, the NAIA decided to bar an entire category of people from competition simply because of a right-wing outrage campaign that purposefully misrepresents and distorts the realities of transgender athletes while doing nothing to support women’s sports. … The NAIA should listen to Hall of Famers like Coach Dawn Staley, and do everything it can to expand access to athletics, including to correct the long-standing lack of resources and support for women’s athletics, instead of engaging in even more discrimination. The chilling message this sends not just to other sanctioning bodies but also to youth sports leagues across the country is dangerous and it must be stopped in its tracks.” (link)

As Abraham Baldwin prepares for its move to the NAIA, it has upgraded a number of facilities, with AD Chuck Wimberly saying of Gressette Gymnasium: “The block walls and the bleachers is probably about the only thing that I probably haven’t put my hand on to try to change. The beauty of all this is [President] Dr. (Tracy) Brundage is supporting what we’re doing.” On the community support, Wimberly: “I’ve not had one person that I’ve talked to who has not been willing to help me get where I need to get to for these kids. That’s a truly awesome testimony for ABAC. […]  ABAC is thriving right now. I’m glad athletics is part of the enthusiasm that is helping build ABAC.” (link)

According to workforce analytics firm ActivTrak, which analyzed 75K workers across North America, the average worker now signs off an hour earlier on Fridays, at 4:03 pm, than in 2021.
