#1: RPI AD Kristie Bowers joins Connect/MB Sports’ Matt Banker from the 2024 NCAA Convention to discuss her first months leading the Engineers, transparency in leadership, creating a great student-athlete experience and more. One student-athlete on the search committee that brought Bowers to campus pinpointed her transparency as a one of her key attributes, to which she elaborates: “When it comes to decision making, I want to make sure people understand my why behind things. Whether it's a student-athlete, a coach, a staff member, if I'm making a decision I'm putting on all those hacks that I've worn previously, but I'm also giving the explanation of how did I get here. I think that's been really key because as a new leader everyone's wondering what does this look like and if you're telling your why and you're explaining the decisions behind it, my hope is that in another couple months my staff feels really confident to execute that why without having to feel like they have to always check in with me.” In conversations with student-athletes, they have identified championship level support, the ability to grow professionally and career readiness as keys to a great experience.
