Oklahoma State AD Weiberg during today’s press conference unveiled the $325M OSU Athletics Vision Plan, which would feature a new football operations center, new wrestling training facility, new softball stadium, an indoor track, new training center for basketball, upgrades to the Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center and to Karsten Creek Golf Course and repurposed areas in the west end zone of Boone Pickens Stadium and Gallagher-Iba Arena for student-athlete services that include a new academics center and spaces for mental health, leadership and career development. Weiberg: “This is a time of conference realignment and unprecedented transformation in college athletics. … Now is not the time to pause or rest on past accomplishments, but to honor those accomplishments by pushing forward and building upon what has been started. This vision plan provides a road map for the next phase of an athletics village that will be unrivaled in collegiate sports." OSU says implementation will be determined as funding becomes available for each individual element. Rice AD Karlgaard says there is “nothing going on” with a potential move to the Pac-12, telling the Houston Chronicle: “I think it’s logical that there would be speculation around us, given our academic profile and the academic schools in the Pac-12. … I have over the last three, four, five years had multiple conversations with those folks about kind of the state of realignment and where this may be headed. But nothing specific about Rice going to the Pac-12.” (link)

Florida State Board of Trustees Chair Collins tells Warchant’s Schoffel the Seminoles “have a very good handle on the (ACC) grant of rights” and confirms that FSU will continue to push for a higher rate of distribution. “We have to do everything we can to take care of Florida State University. Our primary concern is not the ACC. Our primary concern is Florida State. … We’re at a competitive disadvantage in the two sports (football and men’s basketball) that produce the revenue we use to fund every other program.” (link)

Paciolan launches ONEpass to reduce digital wallet clutter. This cutting-edge technology offers a seamless solution for managing event tickets, unlike anything currently on the market.” (link)

Ohio State and the Columbus Blue Jackets have yet to figure out a way to schedule a game in Buckeye Stadium, per The Athletic’s Portzline, who reports that “by all accounts, the NHL is tapping its toes, waiting for the green light should the two parties ever get together on this. … The snag here in central Ohio is the estimated $8M price tag to winterize Ohio Stadium so that a game could be played in the depths of winter (remember winter?) without pipes bursting. Neither the Blue Jackets nor Ohio State want to foot the entire bill.” Furthermore, Buckeyes AD Smith reportedly balked at the idea of winterizing the stadium to prepare for the possibility of OSU hosting a College Football Playoff matchup. Smith recently told The Athletic: “We typically begin to winterize the stadium — drain the pipes, all those kind of things — in mid-to-late December. So we’re kind of right on that bubble. We could host (a CFP game) with no problem. It’s different if you’re going to host a game in January or February.” (link)

A law passed in December which eliminates the opportunity for military academy graduates to defer service requirements and pursue professional sports has left Army West Point, Air Force and Navy worried that athletes “with high-end potential will not attend the academies or will transfer out early in their careers,” per ESPN’s Thamel. Air Force FB HC Calhoun adds: “Why do we want to repel people who want to serve? They want an opportunity in that short, short window that's available to make the most of their gifts and talents. Well, let's be forward thinking here. If not, then we don't attract the best, because we're putting up roadblocks." U.S. Congressman Smith (D-WA), who is the ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, tells Thamel he hasn't decided whether he'll attempt to bring forward a proposed law to try to change the rule back to the 2019 version, which allowed for deferment. “The pertinent argument is…this actually helps the service academy mission.” Black Knights AD Buddie: “Obviously, we're not getting many commits from four- and five-star kids. But if a young person comes to the academy and shows a proclivity in medicine, we reward them and send them to medical school. If they earn a Rhodes scholarship, we send them to Oxford. To me, this is an extension of that." More from Thamel. (link)

Last week, dozens of colleges and collectives received physical books containing annual earnings expectations for student-athletes based on 100,000+ Opendorse transactions, per Opendorse CEO Lawrence, who explains in a 23-tweet thread that “just like salary expectations influence your career, company choice, and tenure, student-athlete earnings expectations may influence their sport, commitment, and transfer decisions. But unlike salary ranges, NIL data isn’t widely available. ... Our insights are based on actual transactions, not hearsay or unvalidated algorithms.” The books include the annual earnings expectations based on position for each conference, division or group using primary data from student-athletes who gave permission for Opendorse to share aggregated insights. They are available to Opendorse partners and data contributors. More from Lawrence. (link)

The Athletic’s Morales catches up with three Pac-12 ACs, one analyst and three recruiting analysts – all anonymous – to discuss how the recruiting landscape is changing. Asked which school has the best infrastructure in place for NIL, Coach 2 says it’s Oregon, “and it’s not even close. Oregon is the only school in the Pac-12 that’s to be feared from a national standpoint because Oregon can go to whatever region it wants to and come out victorious. That’s the bogeyman in the league. That’s Pac-Man in the Pac-12 from an NIL standpoint. Everybody else is child’s play.” Coach 2 is also bearish on the league’s future vis-a-vis conference realignment. “In my opinion, I think the Pac-12 is finished. If you add SMU and San Diego State, that’s like trying to put a Band-Aid on in a swimming pool. That’s not sexy.” Coach 3 says: “I didn’t really see the effect of it. I think a lot of kids are chasing NIL and branding, I don’t know if they care about that other stuff really.” More. (link)

MLB inks a five-year resale ticketing partnership with SeatGeek, who will pay MLB a minimum of $400M, according to Sportico’s Novy-Williams, who reports the partnership is “mainly a revenue-sharing agreement, where the two sides will share upside from MLB tickets purchased on the platform, said the people, who were granted anonymity because the financial specifics are private. … SeatGeek will also share data with baseball, giving teams access to valuable information on who’s attending games and what their preferences are. The revenue and data share ensures that both sides have motivation to direct buyers and sellers to SeatGeek over other options.” MLB was previously partnered with StubHub. (link)
