#2: UAA EVP Rasmussen announces his retirement, effective at the end of the 2023-24 academic year. Rasmussen: “I began discussions with the chair of our Presidents Council two years ago and in my conversations with our current chair, it became clear that now is the time for me to step away. Both chairs were very supportive and encouraged me to determine a timeline that was best for me and for my family.” Carnegie Mellon President/UAA CEO Jahanian: “Dick Rasmussen is a visionary leader whose unwavering commitment to Division III athletics has profoundly impacted higher education institutions and countless student athletes across the country. Over the course of his impressive career, his advocacy and ability to consistently convene leaders and offer sage guidance has established the UAA as one of the premier conferences in NCAA Division III.” 3 Fold Group will assist the association in its search for Rasmussen's successor. #1: Finlandia will close its doors at the end of the school year and not enroll students next year. A letter from Board of Trustees Chair Nakkula reads, in part: "I am deeply saddened to announce that due to a combination of demographic changes, with fewer high school graduates available, a steep decrease in interest in going to college among those graduates, and an unbearable debt load, Finlandia’s Board of Trustees met and have decided to not enroll students for the 2023-2024 school year. [...] We, as a board and leadership team, left no stone unturned in our attempts to move Finlandia forward toward a healthier future." (link)
