#8: D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers chronicles the events that led to former Texas A&M Baseball HC Jim Schlossnagle’s decision to leave for Texas and the Aggies’ process of promoting Baseball AC Michael Earley to HC. Rogers notes that Schlossnagle was on the selection committee for Texas A&M’s new AD but preferred Army West Point AD Mike Buddie over then-Nebraska AD Trev Alberts. “In terms of the actual timeline around his hiring at Texas, sources on the A&M side began to do some serious digging when Schlossnagle did not show up for a ballpark planning meeting a couple of days before his team left for the College World Series. At least two high-ranking A&M officials told D1Baseball before the CWS that their radar went up in a big way when that occurred because Schloss had been so heavily involved in the ballpark process.” More. #6: New Texas Baseball HC Jim Schlossnagle has had some interesting comments over the past week & now you can add another to the list: “(Texas A&M AD) Trev (Alberts) came to me the day before the regional to have a conversation. He asked me if I was frustrated. I told him that I had some frustration with how slow the ballpark process was going and that it was tough to operate without a sport administrator, but I was committed to working through it. He then made a comment to me — kind of comparing his situation of leaving his alma mater, Nebraska. He said to me, ‘You know, Jim, if you ever don’t feel like this is the place for you, that’s OK, and it’s OK to move on.’ I was a little taken aback by that, and that was the moment that I began to think that maybe this wasn’t going to work out. No one ever contacted me or my agent about a new contract for our staff, so I just decided to focus on getting our team to Omaha and winning.” (link)

#3: Texas A&M AD Trev Alberts responds to Texas Baseball HC Jim Schlossnagle’s assertion that Alberts told him he could leave if he wasn’t happy in College Station. “We talked at length. I said, ‘Are you frustrated? Is there anything I can do?’ And at the end of the conversation I said, ‘Jim, if you’re not happy here and you want to leave, that’s OK. But please don’t hurt our program and don’t hurt our kids.’ That’s what I said. And he said, ‘I will never do that, Trev.’ I said, ‘OK.’” Alberts also explains that on June 11 following the Aggies’ two victories over Oregon in the super regional, a meeting was called with the 12th Man Foundation to discuss the already approved $80M redevelopment of Blue Bell Park. “And [Schlossnagle] didn’t come to the meeting. Two days later, I called [a search] firm and said, ‘Let’s get ready to do a search.’” Additionally, Alberts says several donors informed him late in the season that Schlossnagle intended to leave, so he asked to meet with Schlossnagle after the regionals. “We scheduled a meeting for Monday (June 3), and he canceled. We scheduled a meeting for that Tuesday, and he canceled. That Wednesday I went and sat. … [Schlossnagle’s] son was in his office, and so I sat in (assistant) Nolan Cain’s office. I talked for 40 minutes with Nolan Cain until he came.” That’s when the ‘Are you frustrated?’ conversation finally took place, Alberts says. (link)

#2: Former TCU Men’s Golf HC Bill Montigel has filed an age discrimination lawsuit against the university in which he alleges his contract was not renewed in the spring of 2023 because he was 68 years old. The suit also argues that Horned Frogs AD Jeremiah Donati was retaliatory against Montigel, and endorsed “an ‘Animal House’ atmosphere.” From the suit: “At the NCAA basketball tournament in Denver in March of 2023, a Frog Club fundraiser was accused of raping a female co-worker who woke up in his hotel bed not knowing how she got there. She reported the incident to the Colorado Police. Both Donati and (TCU Assoc. AD for Special Projects) Michael Levy were present at the Denver tournament when this improper sexual harassment occurred.” Also: “A leader in the athletic department — who was married — engaged in sexual relations with the wife of a highly successful TCU coach, leading to that coach leaving TCU.” The suit further alleges that a “senior athletic department official was caught in a press box in a compromising position with a female who was senior associate athletic director of student services.” Neither Donati nor a spokesperson for the athletic department responded to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s requests for comment.
