Ozarks will partner with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to build an Olympic-level shooting sports facility. The $10M phase one includes $2M in matching funds from the AGFC, $1.5M from the university, $1M from the City of Clarksville, with U of O to raise the remaining funds. U of O has plans for a $5M phase two as well. President Richard Dunsworth: “Clay target shooting and archery are among the fastest-growing sports in the country, from youth on up to the collegiate level. Our research has shown that there are more than 100 junior and senior high and other youth shooting sports programs currently within a 100-mile radius of Clarksville, and we’re excited about providing a premier facility for these young men and women.” (link)

Roger Williams is expanding to add Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey and Women’s Golf, with Men’s Hockey and Women’s Golf to begin in 2025-26 and Women’s Hockey to start in 2026-27. VP for Student Life John King: “With popularity rising in collegiate men's and women's ice hockey and women's golf, RWU is excited to build on student interest and offer these three new athletic programs for our students. Our new ice hockey teams are the direct result of the accomplishments of our Men's Ice Hockey Club team and interest in Women's Hockey, and we are delighted to add a Women's Golf team following the success of our Men's Golf team.” (link)

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Representative Paul Tonko (D-NY) have introduced the Supporting Affordability and Fairness with Every Bet Act (SAFE Bet Act), which would enact sweeping new federal regulations on gambling companies, including a requirement to set limits on how much sports bettors wager and how often they can place bets. The bill would also establish a nationwide ban on sports betting, requiring the 38 states who have already legalized it to go through a new application process with the U.S. Justice Department. The U.S. Attorney General would then approve or reject applications, with approvals only lasting for a three-year period. Blumenthal: "State regulation is faint-hearted and half-baked. That's why we need a national standard. Not to ban gambling but simply to take back control over an industry that is out of bounds." American Gaming Association SVP of Government Relations Chris Cylke is unsurprisingly opposed to the SAFE Bet Act: “Introducing heavy-handed federal prohibitions is a slap in the face to state legislatures and gaming regulators who have dedicated countless time and resources to developing thoughtful frameworks unique to their jurisdictions.” (link)
