Albright Co-AD/Women’s Basketball HC Janice Luck has transitioned to a new administrative role as Assoc. VP of Admissions and will continue her role as Head Coach of the women's basketball program (link)

Wisconsin-Superior AD Nick Bursik joins the Eye of the Swarm podcast to talk facilities and more. Bursik says Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium is nearing opening, with tentative plans to open on October 12. Beyond SCCU Stadium, Bursik states that it is just phase one and the department is working on funding solutions for more projects. Next on the docket is an indoor turf field house, a solution for baseball and softball and new tennis courts. (link)

Trinity (CT) AD Drew Galbraith chats with the Trinity Tripod’s Ashley McDermott about the latest on the $30M expansion of the George M. Ferris Athletic Center. Galbraith says the facility is on track to have a ribbon cutting ceremony by the end of this spring and be fully operational come next fall. On the impact the facility will have: “This space allows us to decompress. There will be several multi-purpose meeting spaces. Students and teams somewhat battle over limited space so it will be a huge improvement to have the new spaces in the building. Outdoor sport coaches and squash coaches will be in the new building, and that allows us to spread everyone out. There will be a lot more sit-down space coming. To have thousands of square feet for students and staff to decompress is a huge benefit. Students and athletes will come into the lobby on the first floor, and there will be an abundance of space to bond and build community.” (link)

Wittenberg has moved classes online and canceled all activities, including athletic contests, through Sunday, September 22, due to ongoing threats against the university. The FBI and local law enforcement are involved and assessing all threats. (link, link)

+ Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has signed an executive order prohibiting the NCAA or any conference or organization from enforcing or taking “adverse action” against Georgia schools for facilitating or offering NIL compensation to athletes. The EO states that until the House settlement is approved and in place, “legislative and executive actions across the country create a patchwork of inconsistent rules regulating intercollegiate athletics.” (link, link)

+ At today’s Knight Commission meeting, Southern Conference (DI) Commissioner Michael Cross presented a draft of a new NCAA governance model that divides DI into Subdivision A: Power 4 + those they wish to include and Subdivision B: the others, according to Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger, who explains: “Subdivision B will also be known as ‘the Collegiate Premier Subdivision’ that is committed to an education-based model, says UNC Asheville (DI) AD Janet Cone. The draft is a 10-year plan where (the hope) is there is no change to NCAA championship access & revenue-distribution. Goal of dividing DI: (1) appease power leagues wishing to change rules to spend more of their $$ (pay athletes?); (2) appease lower-resourced leagues wishing to legislate competitive equity among themselves; (3) maintain competition between groups in regular season/championships.” (link)

Albright will add STUNT as its 23rd varsity sport in 2025-26. AD Rick Ferry: “STUNT is growing rapidly across the country, and we are thrilled to be adding the sport to Albright's intercollegiate athletics. The NABC is currently pursuing an extension of its partnership with the NCAA, “with the goal of securing the NABC Convention’s future at the DI Final Four in 2025 and beyond. However, with negotiations still ongoing, plans for the 2025 NABC Convention have not yet been finalized. We are simultaneously hard at work preparing contingencies – which include engaging alternative sites – in the event an extension cannot be reached. This model would be consistent with other sports’ coach associations, nearly all of which hold their annual conventions separate from NCAA championships.” Executive Director Craig Robinson adds: “The origins of the NABC’s partnership with the NCAA date back nearly a century, and we believe collaboration between our two organizations serves the overall good of the sport. But our top priority in this process is the best interests of our members, and we are not prepared to sacrifice the NABC’s long-term wellbeing.” (link)
