#7: In addition to a new $38M residence hall on the north end of Top Taggart Field, Ferris State plans to build a new indoor athletic facility on the south end of the stadium to support a number of Bulldogs programs. FSU expects to begin moving dirt on the residence hall project next spring. AD Steve Brockelbank notes the plans are “going to give this facility more of a stadium feel. […] The stadium is long overdue for numerous upgrades, so it's just great that there's a vision and there's a plan and intent and people all working in the same direction to make that happen.” On football scheduling and week 0: “We've had some challenges with football scheduling. There are teams in our conference, similar to us when you achieve a certain level of success, it's really challenging to get teams to come and play you because there's lots of teams available to play, but trying to encourage someone to come to Ferris State and play at Top Taggart against a program that's been as good as we've been […] so the challenge is finding teams to play. Week zero helps us in that, but it'll continue to be a challenge for us as we try to seek games out in the ‘25 ‘26 and ‘27. We do have a contract with a Division II team now in ‘25 and then again we're going to see them again in ‘27. So we'll continue to make progress on scheduling but I just hope everybody understands the hurdles and the challenges for us with our conference. With a limited number of members that play football, it really forces all of us to go out and find a large number of games and depending upon the success of your program that can become a real challenge.” (link)

#4: At today’s Knight Commission meeting, Southern Conference (DI) Commissioner Michael Cross presented a draft of a new NCAA governance model that divides DI into Subdivision A: Power 4 + those they wish to include and Subdivision B: the others, according to Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger, who explains: “Subdivision B will also be known as ‘the Collegiate Premier Subdivision’ that is committed to an education-based model, says UNC Asheville (DI) AD Janet Cone. The draft is a 10-year plan where (the hope) is there is no change to NCAA championship access & revenue-distribution. Goal of dividing DI: (1) appease power leagues wishing to change rules to spend more of their $$ (pay athletes?); (2) appease lower-resourced leagues wishing to legislate competitive equity among themselves; (3) maintain competition between groups in regular season/championships.” (link)

Interim AD John Sung: “This new facility is a testament to the success and growth of our programs, and it reflects the journey we've taken as a university. From our transition as the Knights to the Sharks, our softball team has consistently risen to the challenge, making waves on the national stage. With multiple conference championships and a recent appearance in the NCAA College World Series, the bar has been set high-but this complex gives us the ability to aim higher." (link)

Although my family and I have truly loved every minute of being a part of the Bears Family, it is time for us to embark on a new and exciting chapter.” (link)
