ESPN’s Thamel says it’s unlikely an announcement of a media deal will be forthcoming when Pac-12 CEOs meet next week, citing sources who indicate the “timeline for a deal is likely somewhere later this spring or summer. Northern Kentucky AD Roybal talks about her path to the chair and her belief that there should be more avenues for AD aspirants. “For a while there, it was, ‘If you work in development, you were on the path to be an AD.’ Those might not have been the jobs many women were working in. I think it’s important for us to find real opportunities for growth for women who want to move into leadership and AD roles.” Roybal goes on to note that her biggest challenge starting in the industry was finding her voice. “I was great on the phones, I was doing great in sales. But as someone contributing my ideas at a table that was predominantly men, was I very vocal? Probably not. [...] I still think in many cases, women are somewhat in a box in which to voice opinions. You can’t come across too aggressive; you can’t be too meek. And you have to find the right balance in the middle. I’m not always sure men need to do that.” More from Roybal. (link)

Congresswomen Sherrill (D-NJ) and Salazar (R-FL) have introduced the Women in NCAA Sports (WINS) Act, which would “establish a 16-member congressional commission to study equality in the NCAA’s operation of tournaments and other programs for which there are men’s and women’s divisions” and make a final report to Congress, Sports Illustrated’s Dellenger reports. The report must include a “comparison of the NCAA’s treatment of men’s and women’s teams in postseason tournaments and other programs including venues and equipment provided for games and practices; lodging and transportation; media contracts; licensees, sponsors and overall budgets.” It also must include an analysis of the NCAA policies that affect gender equity and an “overview of federal government support for the NCAA and recommendations for improved federal oversight of the NCAA’s promotion of equality.” More.
