The NAIA inks a five-year deal with Urban Edge Network through September 2029 to offer free streams of NAIA national championships. NAIA President/CEO Jim Carr: “Partnering with UEN provides the opportunity to elevate the visibility of both NAIA athletes and the high level of competition amongst our members institutions. We’re confident that free streaming will increase the association’s reach with college sports fans worldwide and believe UEN is the ideal partner to help us achieve with goal.” Further from the association: “The partnership with UEN is the first in a two-part effort to improve public access and promotion of NAIA athletics. The second will be a newly designed, online NAIA Network, which will go live in November 2024.” (link)

Hurricane Helene Impact:

+ Montreat will reopen campus on October 14. McAlister Gymnasium experienced significant damage, but is structurally sound and the college expects a full restoration. (link)

+ Spartanburg Methodist will not resume classes on Monday as previously planned, with campus to remain indefinitely closed due to the continued power outage. (link)

MidAmerica Nazarene AD Todd Garrett updates KSHB’s Tod Palmer on the $14M Copeland Athletic Complex project, with the complex on-track to open in March. The complex will include a 1K-seat Football stadium, locker rooms for four sports, a track & field practice facility and more. Garrett: “We need additional locker rooms and we need an atmosphere and an environment that builds back into our community versus using off-site facilities. The Olathe Public Schools have been good for us, but it’s time for us to bring our athletes back home for competition and practices, so this is a vital piece of our MNU community. […] “I can’t tell you the number of text messages or emails that I get from our football alumni or our track alumni that says, ‘Man, we are so excited for MNU.’ They dreamed of this when they were here and now we have an opportunity to create their dream, if you will, and to create our dream and build back into our community, so it’s really exciting. ... There’s certainly a bit of enthusiasm that’s boiling across Olathe and on our campus.” (link)

Mount Mercy announces it will add Football starting in fall 2026. President Todd Olson: “Athletics are very important to the health of our campus, as they are for many small private colleges. Adding football will not only allow us to increase enrollment, but will also enrich the vibrancy of our student experience and provide more opportunities to bring alumni and community members to our campus.” AD Paul Gavin: ”At the time we finished Plaster Athletic Complex [in 2017], our Board of Trustees said that the answer to football was ‘no, for now.’ It's exciting that the time for football is finally here, and we can begin building another popular program for our Mustang community.” (link)

Tennessee Wesleyan will bring Bass Fishing to Athens as its newest sport. Former Bryan AD/HC Michael Keen will serve as the inaugural HC. (link)
