William Penn AD Aleesha Rabedeaux sits down with NAIA.ticker’s Kristen Eargle to discuss her transition to AD, challenges and opportunities for WPU, hiring and more. On the challenges: “We’re just trying to make sure we can create the best student-athlete experience possible and the same for our coaches. I want them to be able to focus on coaching and recruiting and all those things and not worry about the little details that hopefully we can handle for them, but just trying to balance all that and create a great experience overall for everybody that's our goal. In the world of higher ed is just how we can continue to make forward progress. How can we continue to make ourselves different from the other schools in Iowa, the schools in the NAIA and so I think for our athletic department team is like how can we continue to be cutting edge? So that's something that we're also facing - what are other people doing and how can we either mimic that or how can we make that even better.” Asked about the keys she looks for when hiring: “For me the first step is creating a really great team to help evaluate the applications and review them and then make sure we're all able to give good honest feedback to each other so that we can really get the best possible person in place for that role. For us, we want to find somebody who's a really great teammate. I feel like when you're going through the process, you can tell if they're going to be easy to work with or maybe they're gonna pose some extra challenges, and if they are that's fine, but I want to know what kind of teammate they're going to be. I think that's important. I think how they build relationships and how they talk about themselves but also talk about their previous experiences is important because that's how they're going to talk in their day-to-day work life. That also is a clear indicator of how they are when they're recruiting – how are they building the relationships during that interview process and I think that's important because as a coach recruiting is such an important part of the job.” (link)

The Mid-South and Sun Conference have inked a Football scheduling agreement for 2025 and 2026 that will see each member play a home-and-home against the opposing conference to fill early-season non-conference scheduling gaps. (link)

Huntington has been placed on probation by the NAIA through 2026-27 for violations of the association’s code of ethics. The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country programs have been suspended from postseason participation this year. AD Lori Culler has also been placed on probation for this academic year. (link)

Park City, Kansas will be the host of the 2025 Women’s Wrestling Championship and the Men’s Wrestling Championships through 2027. Championships Director Austin Bennett: “Throughout the past several years, Park City Arena and Visit Wichita have been outstanding hosts to our men’s wrestling national championship. We are excited to continue our collaboration, this time bringing Park City Arena and Visit Wichita’s passionate approach and athlete-centric environment to the women’s championship.” (link)

Montreat updates on the Cavaliers’ sport plans with classes planned to resume on Monday. Men’s and Women’s Soccer will cease competing until “a normal return to campus is facilitated,” which will allow student-athletes to retain a year of eligibility. Cross Country will resume in two weeks and will be housed at North Greenville (NCAA DII). Volleyball will return to action tomorrow and has been residing at Southern Wesleyan (NCAA DII). Cycling and Men’s and Women’s Golf plan to return to action later this month, with Men’s and Women’s Basketball and Men’s and Women’s Wrestling preparing for their seasons on other campuses. (link)

Mayville State will add Archery as its newest sport, starting next year. President Brian Van Horn: “We believe that we can recruit it as an intercollegiate sport at Mayville State. The growth of archery in America has been exponential. This program should appeal to students who are looking to pursue their higher education goals at a small rural campus. One of the great aspects of archery is that it's a sport where really anyone can compete with hard work and dedication.” (link)

Kansas Wesleyan Football HC Matt Myers steps back from his role to take on another position at the university which will be announced in the coming weeks. Football Operations/Passing Game Coordinator David Leonard and AC/Recruiting & Retention Director Chris Snyder will serve as Interim Co-HC’s. (link)
