uReport is a patent-pending service that allows schools to tell their own stories through a human powered/AI assisted experience. It helps to create full AP-style articles about events and other athletic news that schools can easily publish and distribute.
"We believe that uReport can be a great fit for our schools, many of which have limited sports information staffing and resources. Any technology that has the potential to increase coverage and content while minimizing work load is a positive for our schools."

Lindsey Wilson AD Willis Pooler joins NAIA.ticker as the latest AD in Residence to discuss his relationship with President William Luckey Jr. and their longevity, sustained success and more. After 22 years together, Pooler says the longevity between him and Luckey is a blessing and a curse. “As long as he is the president, I know he is going to prioritize the culture that has been created at Lindsey Wilson. He loves to surround himself with staff and students who are high achievers. This extends outside of athletics. We also have great programs in theater and singing as well, to name a couple. The curse might be that he has extremely high expectations and expects results for the investment we make in our programs. And he should. […] But as we saw small successes in our other programs over time, we made strategic investments to create a department where almost all of our programs have the ability to compete for national championships.” Pooler on LWC’s successes: “When you have so many talented people in your department, it helps create a culture of excellence. They are highly competitive people who invest so much in their student-athletes and provide the kind of leadership that gets the kind of results we have gotten over the years. Additionally, when you have an abundance of scholarship support from the administration, you get to work with amazing student-athletes. We have had some of the best NAIA student-athletes in the history of the organization. And so many are outstanding people as well. This has been a successful formula for us to achieve the long-term success we have had here.” Check out more on BOSCA. (link)

HBCUAC Commissioner Kiki Baker Barnes chats with the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder’s Charles Hallman about a number of topics. On the landscape of the NAIA: “We’re all still trying to figure out how to navigate this space, and how do we continue to keep the student athletes at the forefront of the conversation? How do we create quality experiences for them? How are we working with our institutions, collectively, to move the needle? It doesn’t matter what level you’re at. Those are core issues that we’re all working to address at our level.” Asked about the positioning of the conference after the rollout of the new branding: “We are positioning ourselves and building the platform in a way where we can tell the unique stories of our institutions, and how we continue to win, not just on the court; not just on the field, but in the classroom, in the community, in life in general. The second part of that conversation was about the media rights deal. Because they are a network, they have opportunities to sell to advertisers and can share revenue [with the conference]. All of the larger schools are doing it. We have an exposure opportunity and a chance to get into the money game.” More. (link)

@1QLeadership Question: Does age matter if someone has the capacity to do the job?
Tangela Cheatham, Deputy Athletic Director for Sport Administration and Senior Woman Administrator at Central Michigan, talks about being trusted with an executive level position at an early age. The woman who hired her, CMU Director of Athletics Amy Folan, was also trusted early in her career.
• credits 'supported autonomy' as a critical development tool
• most of her current responsibilities were new experiences when she was hired
• understands that she will never know everything, thus she is always willing to learn
Cheatham describes leaning on Folan to understand the depth of the Deputy position. She also gives her thoughts on impostor syndrome. Throughout her career, Cheatham has always considered caring about people as her primary skill. 🎧 on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.

“A modest uptick in fall enrollment will not be enough to stem intensifying pressure for many U.S. colleges heading into next year and likely beyond,” according to Fitch Ratings analysts during a webinar yesterday. Fitch Ratings Senior Director/U.S. Public Finance Higher Education and Nonprofit Head Emily Wadhwani says some “flagship public institutions, selective private institutions, and HBCUs are achieving record enrollment numbers. Conversely, many smaller, less selective colleges continue to see their enrollment decline.” Lower demand, analysts say, will keep tuition increases in check and have already increased institutional discounting levels. Wadhwani: “Discounting is at its steepest for every incoming freshman class, which then becomes a trailing reference point as those students head towards graduation.” From Fitch: “While most Fitch-rated colleges maintain Stable Outlooks, downward Outlook revisions have risen over the last several quarters. This could indicate more downgrades are ahead, particularly for colleges unable to maintain positive operating performance, as well as erode financial resources. Rating Outlooks vary by geographic region, with far less stress evident in the South compared to the Midwest and Northeast.” Also from Wadhwani: “We do expect the sector to yield generally softer operating margins and continue to show some strains on financial flexibility as we head into 2025.” (link, link)
