More from SSAC Commissioner Mike Hall’s sit-down with NAIA.ticker’s Kristen Eargle as he shares his advice for ADs looking to become a commissioner similar to he did: “Never turn away from an opportunity that is presented to you involving people, involving communities, involving partnerships and relationships. All those things, they mesh together to prepare you to be a commissioner and to be able to manage 10, 12, 14 different schools at the same time.” The SSAC is in year five of its Women’s Leadership Committee, which has 50-60 individuals involved and a line-item budget. “The emphasis behind it is to try to keep highly qualified women in the field of athletics. Whenever you do searches for head coaching positions, unfortunately the majority of the applicants are males and we think that this is just a way to sort of grow your own and keep females in college athletics, both from a coaching standpoint but also from an athletic administration standpoint.” On the topic of hosting conference championships: “We think that playing at a neutral site is the way we should do conference championships. Obviously you have an advantage if you're playing at home and if you're sleeping in your own bed and you're playing at your home court or your home field, but we try to remove from each of our schools the hosting part. We, as a conference staff, host the championships. The coaches they can coach, they don't have to worry about administrative duties and so we think it's a very, very good thing and other conferences have started to tag along and to do similar arrangements.” Check out more only on BOSCA.
