+ Colorado School of Mines and Adams State will take home the Men’s and Women’s XC National Championships, respectively. This is the Orediggers’ third title since 2015 and ASU’s third consecutive national title. (link)

The MIAA launched the MIAA Marketplace via Opendorse, becoming the first DII conference to do so. (link); Commissioner Racy on the opportunity this presents: “This is a huge, huge recruiting opportunity for every one of our programs and every one of our coaches to go out and talk to prospective student-athletes or transfer student-athletes about what the MIAA is doing in NIL and making that available for MIAA student-athletes.” Racy continues on his frustration with the conference’s two FB regional semifinal games being behind the FloSports paywall as they purchased the rights to these two games. Racy noting that the funds fans paid are going to FloSports and the NCAA, not the institutions and pushes for all future playoff games to either be free for fans or behind a paywall. More. (link)

Central Missouri AD Hughes camps with UCM Radio to discuss a number of issues. On the facilities front, UCM is finishing up work on the Multipurpose Building and Wrestling room by the start of next semester. Hughes: “I think NIL and the portal will destroy college athletics. … I think down the road it will be a totally different type of college athletics. I’m not saying college athletics is going to go away. I think you’re going to see more emphasis on players getting paid and making money and it will be to the detriment of a lot of the Olympic sports. Your big sports – football, basketball, so on and so forth – they will survive. A lot of the Olympic sports and possibly some women’s sports will have a hard time existing. I’m not saying they’re going to go away, but they won’t have the financial resources to exist.” (link)

The SIAC will eliminate FB divisions and move to a 4-4-2 scheduling model with each institution playing four primary annual opponents starting next season. Commissioner Holloman: “The new SIAC football scheduling model will help to provide significant advantages for our schools and league. The most important advantage is the benefit we are giving to our student-athletes to have the opportunity to play every school both home and away over a four-year period while decreasing the amount of time spent on the road.” The two participants in the conference championship game will be based on conference winning percentage. Ashland FB HC Owens will retire after 18 seasons leading the Eagles and a 137-61 record. AU President Campo: "Lee Owens took one of the best Division II programs in the nation to a higher level, and his legacy at Ashland University will be long remembered for its commitment to excellence. A “generous donation” from the Loane Family has launched the Charger Fuel Program, a formal relationship between Charger Athletics, the Nutrition Science program and the Exercise Science program at New Haven. The gift will fund a graduate assistant position to work exclusively with student-athletes on meal planning, team nutrition seminars, and one-on-one nutrition counseling sessions, while also allowing provision of nutritional offerings, including team meals, grab-and-go style meal options, and NCAA approved supplements.
