Bryn Athyn and Albright have signed a transfer agreement that will allow BAC student-athletes to transfer “with eligibility limited to Fall 2025,” with full transfer of credits and no increase in the cost, as Albright will match current aid and scholarships. Bryn Athyn President Sean Connelly: “This partnership with Albright College represents our commitment to ensuring the best outcomes for our student-athletes, affording them choices to continue their collegiate athletic careers and complete their degrees without any significant effects on costs or academic standing. While we hope all our student-athletes choose to finish strong and complete their degrees at BAC, we recognize the importance of athletics as a part of the college experience and the benefit to students of having this no-hurdle transition option.” (link)

NCAA President Charlie Baker tells NBC’s Nicole Auerbach that the House settlement will provide structure around NIL for the first time, “and we will be able to tell just exactly how much money in the NIL world – on the institutional side and the third-party side – people are investing in sports, especially in particular sports. For me, that’s really important because I think the way this thing’s been working up until now no one knows. They really don't. All you have is what people tell you, and honestly I've come not to believe any of it and I know that's true for a lot of people who cover sports who have told me the same thing. We will at least finally understand how much money on the NIL side people are putting in our schools. … I think that's going to be a big win for everybody because transparency creates accountability, and right now, we don't have either.” (link)

Azusa Pacific AD Gary Pine sits down with BOSCA Founder Jim Abbott to discuss the Cougars’ decision to move from DII to DIII and the future of the association. The decision to move to DIII and bring back football was inspired by two different ideas with President Adam Morris: football through conversations with constituents during his first year who wanted to revive the program and DIII as a passing comment from Morris: “We just have to find a more efficient way to run athletics.” APU currently spends close to $1M annually in travel, and when football was discontinued in 2019, it was spending around $43K in travel per away game. DIII and the SCIAC allowed the Cougars a solution for both items. One other key question from Morris was what athletics looks like in 2030. To which, Pine expanded to 2032 when the CBS-Turner-March Madness contract expires and believes “I'm just not totally confident that when that contract’s up, its current structures as it is for Division II and Division III will remain the same. I just thought efficiencies of operations, football, future of college athletics - I just thought we would be better aligned and probably better insulated from some of the troubles coming down the pike as a Division III school. We had a consultant, Bowlsby Sports Advisors, who were outstanding for us and they gave us four recommendations, but one of those recommendations was going Division III. It just lined up so well that we thought this is what we have to do for the long-term future of Azusa Pacific. We're not in any financial straits, but we want to be good stewards of the resources we have. We just thought Division III accomplished all three of those goals - that we had efficiencies of operations, having football, and better protected from whatever it is that's coming down the pike in terms of college athletics and the operations of it.” Full conversation only on BOSCA. + Middlebury announced a series of moves to realize more than $10M in savings as it expects a $14.1M deficit this fiscal year. The university will reduce its retirement match from 15% to 11% starting January 1, offer early retirement to Vermont-based staff (not faculty) with at least a decade of service, reduce the number of rental properties for various language schools and move them back to campus and work to bring enrollment to between 2,600 and 2,650. Of note: “Carrying a deficit every June 30, as we’ve done for too long, is too great a weight, one that eventually will hamper our ability to deliver on our mission. Our deficits are continually an outlier among our NESCAC peers, which all operate profitably, experiencing only occasional downturns. And there are signs that financial pressures will only increase, as we hear of plans, for instance, to tax endowments at 14 percent or even 21 percent, up from 1.4 percent today. […] By balancing our books, living within our means, we’ll put ourselves in the best position to support what matters here.” (link)

As President Donald Trump’s tariff strategy continues to play out, Sportico’s Lev Akabas obtained a list of suppliers for 11 major companies that share their facilities on the platform Open Supply Hub. Those companies – Fanatics, Under Armour, Adidas, New Balance, New Era Cap, Nike, Puma, Lululemon, Amer Sports, Asics and Dick’s Sporting Goods – utilize 2,508 factories around the world. Of those, China, which is still subject to a hefty tariff as of the latest Trump announcement, has the most (35%), but Akabas notes the manufacturers are “also scattered across the rest of Asia. Vietnam is home to 18% of the facilities, and there are a significant number in Indonesia (6%), Cambodia (4%) and Taiwan (3%). All in all, the aforementioned companies sourced products from more than 2,000 factories (80%) in East or South Asia, where Trump’s initial tariff rates were highest. One major caveat with this dataset is that the numbers are not equivalent to the actual percentages of product that is made in those locations. The factories vary greatly in size, and their output quantities are not known. … It should also be noted that this cohort of companies varies greatly in the percentage of their sales that come in the U.S., and therefore their percentage of revenue that could be impacted by Trump’s policies.
