#7: A new Division I governance model is being shared with executives, according to Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger, who explains the “ proposed model streamlines NCAA committees – shrinks them, eliminates some, etc. - but, most notably, grants the four power conferences 51% & as much as 65% weighted voting privileges.” (link)

#3: The Wall Street Journal’s Josh Dawsey, Rachel Bachman & Laine Higgins report the Trump administration “is considering an executive order that could increase scrutiny of the explosion in payments to college athletes since 2021.” The report follows a meeting President Trump had on Thursday in Alabama that included former Alabama FB HC Nick Saban: More from the WSJ trio: “Trump said he agreed with Saban and would look at crafting an executive order, people familiar with the meeting said. Trump told aides to begin studying what an order could say, the people said. Saban didn’t propose ending NIL but ‘reforming’ it, according to a person with direct knowledge of the meeting. He described how it was causing an uneven playing field, the people said, with an arms race among powerhouse schools.” (link)

#1: Former Alabama Football HC Nick Saban and Texas Tech University System Board of Trustees Chair/Double Eagle Energy Holdings CEO Cody Campbell will help lead President Donald Trump’s presidential commission on college athletics, per Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger. (link); The Athletic’s Ralph Russo cites a source who says Trump is expected to be “very engaged” with the commission. Former LEAD1 CEO Tom McMillen also weighs in: “I give President Trump a lot of credit. This is a time to bring the best minds in college sports together, in higher education, and figure a model out. He’s always had a big interest in sports. It really fits his kind of whole M.O.” McMillen adds that a commission on college sports could help lead to long-term reform without interrupting what is already in motion. “Not gonna be overnight, but it could be very, very symbolic and very significant for higher ed and college sports, and for America.” (link)
