#10: Point Loma removes the interim tag from AD Jordan Courneya, who has been leading the Sea Lions since July. President Kerry Fulcher: “Jordan has effectively led the Athletics leadership team, which has elevated the competitive excellence of our athletic programs while strengthening the character and purpose that reflect who we are as a university. I'm confident that under his leadership, PLNU Athletics will continue to thrive on and off the field as a meaningful extension of our mission to shape students who live, lead, and serve with integrity and faith.” (link)

#8: Winona State introduced new AD Jen Flowers. Flowers: “I stepped on this campus as a 19-year-old who truly had no idea the impact of what this university and this athletic department was going to have on my life. When I returned today, a little older than 19, educated, experienced, and excited to raise the bar for Warrior Athletics. I know there's no better time and there's no better person to lead the resurgence than me. I can't wait to get to work alongside a staff of people who I know also want to do that same thing. It's going to take all of us, every warrior here, there, and everywhere else, to build what we're chasing. We're going to work really hard to reestablish the relationships that are needed. We're going to work really hard to get the buy-in together. That big, big word is capitalized on my paper. Together we are going to take Warrior athletics to new heights.” On reengaging the community, Flowers’ focus extends beyond the action on the court or field: “We need to be intentional about creating an experience for our fans and for our students and our current student-athletes are going to have to be part of that. […] The number one thing I think that we're seeing just in terms of engagement is finding a reason for people to come to the game. It no longer can just be because the teams are good. That doesn't get people out of their houses as much, so we need to have an experience around our events as well and then do it right from start to finish.” Full presser. (link)

#7: Columbus State introduced new AD Justin Hay as the Cougars’ next AD last week. On what drew him to Columbus: “This department's doing things the right way and I truly believe it is poised to take the next step from good to great and from regional relevance to national leadership. My purpose in athletics and our vision moving forward here at Columbus State will be rooted in a well-rounded student-athlete experience where we develop the whole person, servant leaders. Something that I quickly learned was a vision of [President] Dr. Rayfield and a purpose here at Columbus State. That's where that excitement came from. That is my purpose in life. That is why I wake up in the morning. That's why I've been in athletics as long as I can remember.” Asked about the future for the Cougars: “I think that for us, this is the beginning and this is the start. We want to continue to compete regionally. We want to want to compete in the Peach Belt. We want to compete at the top of the Peach Belt in all sports. We talk about student-athlete experience but winning is part of that. It's hard to have a good student-athlete experience when you're not winning, so our goal will be continuing to compete at the top of the Peach Belt, but we're going to set our sights on regional relevance and national relevance and go after that.” Full presser. #6: Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger reports plans for a presidential commission on college sports have been paused, “a move possibly rooted in its potential impact in Senate negotiations over college sports legislation.” Dellenger adds: “It is unclear how long the pause will extend, except to potentially give five U.S. senators, led by Ted Cruz and Cory Booker, more time to possibly reach an agreement on federal legislation. The senators have met multiple times over the last four months but hurdles remain.” (link)
