#10: The ASC will be down to six members come 2024 as it searches for a new commissioner. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s Hogue ponders what may be next for the ASC, with UT Dallas serving as the wild card of the remaining six, as UTD has conducted a DII feasibility study that was put on pause during the pandemic. As for possible paths forward, Hogue writes that would require UTD to remain or for the league to find a new member via the NAIA. Further: “Some have said the ASC and the SCAC will have a football alliance to help the ASC maintain an automatic bid to the playoffs. … However, the SCAC is in a position of strength and only needs to ally with the ASC if they departed for competitive reasons. Other sources have mentioned the possibility of Texas Lutheran or Schreiner wanting to be part of a more competitive conference and moving back to the ASC. Of course, the conference would welcome two football schools with open arms. However, this option seems like at least another year away, especially with the ASC still needing a new Commissioner.” More. (link)
