The Pac-12 has invited Texas State to join the league starting in 2026-27, per the Austin Sports Journal’s Michael Adams. The Bobcats are expected to formally accept the invitation during a Board of Regents meeting Monday morning. (link)

The Associated Press’ Eddie Pells writes on an interesting development on Capitol Hill: “College sports leaders seeking antitrust and other protections from Congress have a potential bargaining chip: School assurances that they will provide funding for their increasingly imperiled Olympic programs, by far the biggest pipeline of talent for Team USA. [...] While the U.S. government is forbidden by law from funding Olympic teams, there is no such prohibition on government funding for universities and their sports programs. One idea would be for the bill to include promises of certain levels of funding for college Olympic sports programs — some of which could be raised through federal grants to help the schools offset the cost.” NCAA President Charlie Baker: “It would depend upon what they have in mind. We’d be open to a conversation about that because those sports are important and they matter.” USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland: “We have no reason to believe that there’s not real alignment from all the parties, including members of Congress, who have indicated to us a very real concern for Olympic and Paralympic sport.” (link)

Sacramento State President Dr. Luke Wood via X earlier this week: “Sacramento State has met every meaningful benchmark for FBS membership, and we believe our university, our students, and the entire Sacramento region deserve major college football. We’re full steam ahead and we still plan to be playing FBS football in 2026.” ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that Sac State has now retained the services of high-profile attorney Jeffrey Kessler following the NCAA’s decision to deny the Hornets a waiver to play FBS football. Arkansas is reducing its department head count by roughly 10%. Hogs AD Hunter Yurachek: “Yesterday was one of the toughest if not the toughest day in my 16 years as an athletic director. We've obviously had some conversations like that with coaches, but these were different conversations yesterday with our staff members that we had to have. They were conversations with really good friends, really good people. People with families. People that are devastated and going to be impacted. It's just all part of the changes -- major changes -- that are going on in college athletics as we prepare for the revenue sharing that begins on July 1. [...] I went to each of my deputy athletic directors and asked them to find me anywhere from 5 to 10% salary savings within their various units and that was so we didn't hone in on any one unit. Obviously we tried to stay away from, and we did, from our sports and doing anything with coaching staffs -- people directly tied to sports like athletic trainers. We had some requirements for that -- strength and conditioning coaches, nutritionists, mental health professionals. So there's some areas we didn't touch. The majority of these took place on the administrative side.” (link)

Georgia Southern AD Chris Davis updates the Eagles’ fan base on a myriad of key topics, including how his department will move forward amid industry change: “Let me start by making something very clear: there have been zero conversations about canceling any sports at Georgia Southern — none. Not one meeting, not one discussion, not from any level of leadership. Our department remains aligned and committed to building an elite environment that maximizes every available resource in support of our athletics programs and the university.” As for updates on facility upgrades: “A lot is happening. At the Hill Convocation Center, we're adding a new parking lot and enhancing building signage. At baseball, we've broken ground on the new Steverson Family Building, a huge step forward for our program. We're improving locker rooms for both men's and women's soccer and track & field and adding volleyball-specific touches at Hanner Fieldhouse. We're also planning future upgrades for softball and ongoing game day enhancements at Paulson Stadium.” (link)

Montana State AD Leon Costello has been appointed to the Division I Football Championship Committee. His term began this week and runs through August 31, 2028. (link)

The Minnesota Duluth Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey programs plan to increase the amount of scholarships offered over the next three seasons, going from the equivalent of 18 full scholarships this past year to 22 by the 2027-28 season. Both teams may offer up to 20 full rides next year and 21 in 2026-27. The Bulldogs will also pay up to $3K per student-athlete in Alston Awards. (link)

Former Louisville AD Tom Jurich, who is back in the Derby City for a ceremony tomorrow as a street on campus will be bear his name, says “only the strong will survive” in the rev-share era and tells WDRB’s Eric Crawford: "I've always said, as an AD, you've got to be a fundraiser, fundraiser, fundraiser. Now? You've got to be a fundraiser times 10. Not just you – your staff, your coaches. You can't rely on people just throwing money in a hat. They've got to see purpose and vision. If they do, they'll jump in with you. … I think Louisville is in a very good position. The ACC has done wonders for our opportunities. Adidas has helped pave the way financially. And the fan base – our support is known all over the country. That makes this place special." (link)

Coastal Carolina held the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday for its new indoor practice facility. The 90,000-square-foot structure, which includes a regulation-size field, two filming platforms, restrooms and an athletic training area, was funded, in part, by lead gifts from Conway Medical Center with Novant Health and former Chanticleers football HC/former TD Ameritrade CEO/current Executive Advisor to the President Joe Moglia. AD Chance Miller: “With a regulation-size teal field and amenities that support year-round performance, this facility equips our football team and all of our student athletes in all of our sports with the resources they need to prepare, compete and succeed at the highest level.” Pictures via the link. The NCAA has denied the waiver request submitted by Memphis Men’s Basketball student-athlete Dain Dainja. Tigers HC Penny Hardaway: “I just want to thank him for everything he gave to our program — his time, his energy, and his belief in what we’re building here. I also want to thank our compliance office and university administration. They put in countless hours navigating this complex process and worked tirelessly on Dain’s behalf. We’re going to keep supporting Dain however we can, and I know he’s going to be successful wherever life takes him next. He’ll always have a place in our Memphis family.” (link)

Five former San Francisco baseball student-athletes filed a lawsuit Wednesday, accusing the school of failing “to adopt and enforce policies” prohibiting abuse allegedly perpetrated by former HC Nino Giarratano and AC Troy Nakamura. The 52-page complaint, filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, makes allegations similar to those included in a lawsuit initiated by three other former players in March 2022. Wednesday’s suit, as the previous one did, also names Giarratano and Nakamura as defendants. This complaint alleges the coaches “creatively and coercively” maintained “an abusive and sexualized environment” in USF’s baseball program. The complaint includes new details, such as accusing Nakamura of “showering with players and describing his sexual desires to them.” It also alleges Giarratano punched one player in the chest and grabbed another “by the neck, squeezed tightly and threw him violently to the ground.” More from the San Francisco Chronicle’s Ron Kroichick. From in front of the Law360 paywall: “A federal court has permanently barred a Washington-based print-on-demand company from selling merchandise with Pennsylvania State University’s name or certain trademarked logos, though it stopped short of banning anything ‘substantially similar’ or making the company pay the school’s attorney fees.” (link)

The Illinois-focused ICON collective will cease acting as a collective and instead focus on partnering with the athletic department to “develop and execute meaningful community engagement activities in an effort to strengthen relationships between the University of Illinois, Fighting Illini Athletics, the local community, and Illini fans.” ICON will continue to operate several of its revenue-generating businesses, including the ICON for Illini membership program, the Business Coalition, and various licensing partnerships. East Carolina’s Team Boneyard and The 23 Club collectives will cease operations on June 30 and as such, fans current supporters are asked to “shift their monthly contributions to the Pirate Club’s Athletics Excellence Fund.” Every dollar given to the AEF will support revenue sharing for Pirates student-athletes. Monmouth has launched the Hawk Excellence Fund to support student-athletes through NIL, revenue sharing, and academic benefits. Hawks AD Jen Sansevero: "We believe strongly in supporting our student-athletes' NIL opportunities, particularly in the sports of football, men's basketball and women's basketball. We do this while remaining committed to supporting a broad-based, competitive program of 24 sports. To be successful, Monmouth Athletics must continue to adjust the way we have operated in order to generate new streams of revenue." (link)

Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark reiterates his support for the 5+11 College Football Playoff format: “I think earning it on the field is critically important. I think that’s what’s fair. I think it’s what the fans want. … It’s going to be a discussion that the CFP Management Committee has throughout the summer months. We’re in no rush. We do have a bit of a deadline late next fall, but I think between now and then we’ll look at the data, we’ll continue to vet out different possibilities, but I’m for fairness, and I’m for winning it on the field.” (link)

Arizona State AD Graham Rossini expects ASU to end up with more than 7,500 new football season tickets, which would bring the overall total to its highest level in over a decade. Rossini also says the Sun Devils have no plans to eliminate any of their 26 varsity sports and says the department is not planning to disclose the sport-specific breakdown of how the $18M in revenue sharing will be distributed, though football and men’s basketball will be the primary recipients. ASU would likely begin its multiyear renovation of Desert Financial Arena following next May’s graduation ceremonies, and Rossini says more specifics on the renovation plans are expected to be released soon. Rossini on men’s basketball: “I believe in Bobby Hurley. I know his back is against the wall” with only one returning player and one year left on his contract. Rossini explains that he likes the effort Hurley and the staff made to build a team-centered roster with more older players and acknowledges that Hurley knows ASU needs to be more successful next season; however, he didn’t provide a specific bar that needs to be cleared for him to continue beyond next season. Arizona AD Desireé Reed-Francois says of the recently announced Bear Down Blueprint: “We have 504 young people we have the privilege of impacting their lives at the most important time. There’s going to be challenges. This is not perfect, this settlement, but we have great progress and, with that, we are going to continue to see this evolution, and that’s why the Bear Down Blueprint has the accountability and the ability for us to adapt. … In the ‘90s and early 2000s, we were Top 10 in the (Learfield) Director’s Cup and we’ve fallen. We’re in the 50s now. That’s not who we are. We need to get back to excellence across the board.” That said, Reed-Francois notes that “our Olympic sports we take a lot of pride in and we are never going to deviate from that, but we also need to make sure that we are positioning football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, softball, those sports that are more revenue producing that others are competing at the highest levels. For us to fund the rest of our sports, we need those revenue sports competing and succeeding at a high level.” (link)

Extra Points’ Matt Brown shares what he knows about what’s happening with the Big Sky, WAC, and Atlantic Sun and reports that “multiple industry sources with direct knowledge of both conferences’ thinking told me on Wednesday that the UAC and ASUN are expected to look at adding additional members in the near future. Specifically, I’m told that the UAC will at least attempt to add other institutions from the Southland Conference. I’m told the potential candidate pool for the ASUN includes both current DI institutions and institutions currently competing in DII. Both leagues now have a more defined footprint and institutional makeup, which should make future membership searches a little more clear.” While the leagues will operate separately with their own championships and NCAA AQs, Brown notes the “current thinking moving into 2026 is that the UAC and ASUN will also look to share at least some administrative resources. That could theoretically mean the two conferences would share some communications or compliance staff, or consolidate some of their software and equipment purchases. … There are still kinks to work out, like exactly what the governance structure will look like. … But the hope among league members is that the split will make day-to-day league governance simpler, provide new value for current and future league members, make realignment decisions easier and give everybody a bit more flexibility.” (link)

PayPal has signed multiyear partnerships with the Big Ten and Big 12 to serve as each league’s official system to share revenue with student-athletes. The Big 12 deal is reportedly worth $100M over five years. SBJ’s Ben Portnoy notes PayPal will also become a preferred payment partner for tuition payments at select schools. Also from Portnoy: PayPal subsidiary Venmo has also been tabbed the presenting partner of the Big Ten Rivalry Series – a sponsorship play that will include branding across a slew of Big Ten football and men’s and women’s basketball games. Venmo, too, will serve as the official partner of the Big 12 – spanning football, basketball and Olympic sports championships on the men’s and women’s side.” (link, link); PayPal CEO Alex Chriss tells CBS’ Brandon Marcello the company is also in discussions with other conferences to become their partners for revenue-share payments. Illinois AD Josh Whitman remarked during today’s roundtable that the Illini have no appetite for private equity but have been approached. The department is exploring other ways to fully maximize their capacity to make revenue to boost the athletics department. Whitman also indicated he does expect the House settlement to work, adding: "Failure can't be an option in this instance." While he did not share specific scholarship figures for each sport, Whitman noted the Illini will make "significant scholarship investment in every sport we sponsor." The rev-share breakdown will not exactly align with the 75/15/5/5 model some schools are using but will come close to it. 98% of revenue-share will go to football, basketball, women's basketball and volleyball. Whitman explained the charge to the College Sports Commission is to "investigate fast and punish hard." Put another way, per Whitman: “Work fast and swing a big hammer." The Illini brought in a record $190M of revenue this fiscal year, with a record $17.6M in ticket revenue. More from 247Sports’ Jeremy Werner. (link)

Illinois will also invest more than $9M in a new wireless internet system at Memorial Stadium for the 2025 football season, with planning underway for numerous other upgrades. Specifically, the Illini are scheduled to upgrade all Memorial Stadium videoboards for the 2026 season. The stadium's main videoboard above the south end zone and both the east and west ribbon boards will be enhanced, along with a new board that will be installed above the north end zone student section. In all, a total of 19 new video displays will be featured throughout Memorial Stadium. Also for 2026, a new sound system will feature a main speaker above the new south videoboard and 20+ new speakers throughout the stadium. The LED lighting system will provide an upgraded experience for fans, student-athletes, and those watching on television. Illini AD Josh Whitman: “Over the last five years, DIA has made a dedicated investment in Memorial Stadium, one of the state's most historic and storied venues, including over $20M in current and completed infrastructure upgrades. Over the next two seasons, we are excited to continue those efforts by adding wireless internet for the use, convenience, and enjoyment of our fans, along with new and enhanced videoboards, sound, and LED lighting." Mike and Wilcox Financial/Wilcox Sports Management are industry leaders in supporting and representing coaches and administrators across college athletics in all stages of their careers. Their commitment speaks volumes about their service and support to this University, our athletics department and its coaches and staff over the years.” (link)

+ Colorado is partnering with Two Circles to launch “Buffs Premier,” a fan engagement platform and membership program owned and operated by the CU athletic department to “tap into a subset of fans that might not previously have donated at the levels traditionally activated on via booster club models,” according to SBJ’s Ben Portnoy. Two Circles EVP Nick Garner: “Schools can’t really steward a donor that’s not spending, call it $5K or $10K. That cuts out like 90% of their fan base and that 90% the only way they’re engaged, typically, is through buying a ticket or buying a piece of merch from the school. But there’s no real direct engagement. Now that these schools are essentially on the hook to compensate athletes and looking for revenue sources, this is an opportunity to also utilize the student athlete to engage with the fan.” Buffs Premier will cost fans a minimum of $39.99 monthly at the “Black” level, with more significant packages and deliverables at higher price points for the “Silver” and “Gold” levels.
