Missouri-St. Louis AD Holly Sheilley joins Inside UMSL to discuss her decision to join the Tritons and goals. On leaving her previous position at Transylvania (DIII) for UMSL, Sheilley states: “I left a really good place. I think they're headed in the right direction. We had won a national championship and had a lot of firsts, but it was time for me to have a new challenge, and I wanted a place where I felt like the top of the leadership was ready to go. I'm not very patient, and I'm the first to admit it. So I want people who are also in that same regard. When I met the chancellor, and I met [Vice Chancellor for Strategic Enrollment and Career Advancement] Reggie [Hill] and some of the other leadership team here, these people want to grow this place. They want to continue to excel. It was also very attractive to me that they are passionate about getting education to everybody and to places, perhaps in St. Louis and other states that don't have the ability to afford education, and so that's really a heart of mine, too.” Asked about what she hopes to accomplish: “I think the athletics is awesome, but it's a hidden gem on campus. I don't think that most of campus knows what they have over there; just the location is a little bit on the outer edge, not on purpose, just the way the landscape here landed athletics. So I think part of what I'm really looking forward to and really putting my energy into is how we can market and promote ourselves to our own community. How can we shout our own praises and not take away from it but say, ‘Hey, I know this student just did great in your class. Did you know she came here not only for your academics but also for athletics?’ So I want that message to be really across campus. I wanted to be proud of what we do in athletics, and I want them to come to games and enjoy the great things going on.” More. (link)

American International AD Rob Kearney sits down with NE10 Director of Strategic Communications & Digital Media Joel Godett to talk about his transition from professional strongman to AD and his vision for the Yellow Jackets. Kearney believes a lot of AIC programs are on the cusp of “being amazingly competitive. I think by making the right personnel decisions in the department, surrounding yourself with people who understand who AIC is and why these student-athletes deserve a more competitive, better environment to be a part of, that's really what has been the driving force of my vision going forward. I think at AIC we're often looked at as the underdog and to me there's nothing more exciting than being the underdog because everybody wants to see the underdog win.” Prior to joining AIC in August 2024, Kearney served as a high school athletic trainer and took the position as Asst. AD for Sports Medicine and Performance with the goal of revamping the athletic training staff and rebuilding the culture in the weight room. “The one thing that I always stayed true to was that athletic training is a service-oriented profession. So, as long as I knew I was staying true to myself in the roots of rebuilding the reputation of athletic trainers here at AIC, making sure I had strong relationships with not only the athletes, but the coaches and administration here in athletics and on campus as well, I knew I could do a good job. I am a people person by trait. I love making connections and building relationships, and that's what I really centered my entire job around, on top of providing really, really high-level athletic health care. That's really the mindset I took when stepping into the role of athletic director.” (link)

Yesterday, the DI Board of Directors approved a proposal from the Decision-Making Working Group that “simplifies the governance structure for the division, increases student-athlete representation throughout all levels of decision-making, and provides greater authority to sport-specific committees over rules that impact their respective sports. The changes are expected to be phased in over the coming months, starting September 1.” As circulated previously, the new structure will comprise 30 Division I committees, including 19 committees that govern each Division I championship sport, a 32% reduction in the total number of Division I committees. Student-athletes will now have voting seats on almost every committee, which is an increase of 40 total seats, doubling the total number of student-athlete seats. NCAA President Charlie Baker: "Today's changes were carefully developed by student-athlete leaders and representatives from all subgroups to enable faster decisions and double student-athlete representation for DI, while ensuring access to championships and funding streams remain consistent for every school in the division. From unprecedented financial benefits to health and academic guarantees, the NCAA is making changes to do more for student-athletes, and today's changes protect what brings DI together and updates the decision-making to meet this new era." The board also adopted a resolution specifying that for a five-year period no changes can be made to membership requirements for existing DI schools and conferences. AD Marc Bauer: “Offering beer and other alcoholic beverages in a regulated and responsible manner is a positive step for our program and our fans. We’ve allowed alcohol consumption in our Loper Fan Fest Tailgate area for years with no incidents. This policy allows us to extend that experience inside the stadium while prioritizing safety and fan behavior.” (link)

As athletic departments across the country adapt to the changing athletics and higher ed landscape, the number of open jobs posted throughout the industry has nosedived over the last two years. To be specific, the total number of job openings listed throughout the overall marketplace in July 2025 has plummeted by 66.15% in DI, DII, DIII and NAIA combined when compared to July 2024. In DII, listings have fallen by an astonishing 67.03% in the same time period. Broken down further, DII job openings posted with the NCAA dipped by nearly 17%. Despite this downward spiral, the CollegeSports.jobs site continues to thrive. To wit, overall job postings across College.town publications have increased by 20.32%, and D2.ticker alone has experienced a 31.25% uptick. What does this mean? It means that if the conventional wisdom says to meet the customers where they are, you can find yours browsing the bustling streets of College.town. (link)

Wondery founder Hernan Lopez shared that Instagram’s average mobile time spent was up by 11 percent in the second quarter of 2025, the “fastest growth among big tech peers.” Instagram continues to close the average-time-spent gap with TikTok and YouTube, he writes, but still trails Facebook in daily active users.
