Piedmont promotes Asst. AD/SWA/Women’s Basketball HC Jamie Purdy to AD, effective immediately, as Purdy will continue to coach while leading the Lions. The DIII Presidents Council has a new chair in Albertus Magnus President Marc Camille, with Greenville President Suzanne Davis to serve as vice chair. The council approved increases in per diem starting this year to $150 for traveling teams and $60 to hoses and the implementation strategy for DIII’s strategic plan. The group discussed the priorities of the Presidents Council Futures Subcommittee: Future financial reviews and stability, Congressional engagement, Division III membership stability, Branding and marketing, NCAA Purchasing Cooperative and Deloitte financial analysis. On membership, the council noted “existing pressures on schools to meet NCAA minimum standards, as well as recent conference realignments that are fulfilling conference needs but simultaneously growing conference footprints and straining institutional budgets.” On the purchasing collective: “Currently, there is low use of the NCAA purchasing cooperative, which provides discounts for athletic training supplies (such as tape and braces), fitness center equipment and field construction. The council expressed its strong support for efforts to expand the cooperative to include other items (such as balls and uniforms).” (link)

NCAC Executive Director Keri Alexander Luchowski has been named the next DIIICA President for a two-year term. UMAC Commissioner Corey Borchardt will serve as VP. (link)

Yesterday, the DI Board of Directors approved a proposal from the Decision-Making Working Group that “simplifies the governance structure for the division, increases student-athlete representation throughout all levels of decision-making, and provides greater authority to sport-specific committees over rules that impact their respective sports. The changes are expected to be phased in over the coming months, starting September 1.” As circulated previously, the new structure will comprise 30 Division I committees, including 19 committees that govern each Division I championship sport, a 32% reduction in the total number of Division I committees. Student-athletes will now have voting seats on almost every committee, which is an increase of 40 total seats, doubling the total number of student-athlete seats. NCAA President Charlie Baker: "Today's changes were carefully developed by student-athlete leaders and representatives from all subgroups to enable faster decisions and double student-athlete representation for DI, while ensuring access to championships and funding streams remain consistent for every school in the division. From unprecedented financial benefits to health and academic guarantees, the NCAA is making changes to do more for student-athletes, and today's changes protect what brings DI together and updates the decision-making to meet this new era." The board also adopted a resolution specifying that for a five-year period no changes can be made to membership requirements for existing DI schools and conferences. President Earl Brooks II on the facility that will be used by Baseball, Football, Lacrosse, Soccer and Softball: “We’re proud to continue to support our athletic teams with state-of-the-art facilities, allowing them to build on the many successes we’ve already achieved.
