#10: FootballScoop’s John Brice provides a bit more information on the cuts affecting Stanford with the school revealing plans to eliminate over 360 full-time positions through layoffs with almost 10% of those cuts occurring within the athletics department. This comes after the University announced earlier this summer that it would trim $140M from its operating budget and just one year after the Cardinal joined the ACC, a move that Brice notes “instantly incurred a marked increase in operating expenses.” (link)

#9: Air Force Football has unveiled its latest Air Power Legacy Series special uniform slated to be worn at Navy on Oct. 4. Continuing a special line that dates back to 2016 and has previously spotlighted the Tuskegee Airmen, the Space Force, the Doolittle Raiders and various aircraft, this year’s uniform will “include a helmet that replicates a fighter pilot’s helmet with the front bumper featuring a silhouette of the F-16. The word ‘Psycho’ will be included on the helmet in honor of the call sign of Col. William Andrews, an Air Force graduate who was shot down in Operation Desert Storm.” According to The Gazette’s Brent Briggeman, other features will include the word “Viper” down one leg and “Fighting Falcon” down the other. #8: Kansas AD Travis Goff walks the length of the new field at the freshly renovated David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium and explains the rationale behind weaving so much of KU’s history into the design. “There’s so many aspects to what it means to be a Kansan, to what it means to be a Jayhawk, and I think we really want that embedded in the fabric of the venue. And I really think of it as a scavenger hunt. Our fans are going to have a lot of fun just exploring the different concourses, reading about the history and the ways we’re trying to bring to life what makes KU so special.” Check out the full 100-yard stroll and get a field-level look at the Jayhawks’ new-look venue. #7: VTScoop247’s Doug Bowman has a long & interesting X thread reviewing a 54-slide deck Virginia Tech AD Whit Babcock is due to present to the university’s Board of Trustees on the 18th of this month that covers ACC revenue sharing, mixed use real estate opportunities, projections on future TV rights & more. Of particular note the deck indicates Notre Dame’s FY25 operating budget is $215M, an expectation that the Big 12’s new TV deal in 2030 will catch up with the ACC’s, plus, “VT needs to increase viewership.” So how to do that? Babcock lists several levers, including on-field performance, non-conf scheduling, game buyout ROI, stand-alone game value, and tune-in campaigns. Next, he has some interesting data on the "value of linear football games" aka games on ESPN or ABC. Games on those channels average 1.82M incremental viewers. That's worth $560k in year 1 and $1.61M over 5 years with the new ACC success initiative. Per game. So then you get into projections. If you win more, you're on ABC or ESPN more, so here's two slides on ‘incremental wins analysis’. 6 wins = nothing. 9 wins = $1.7M success initiative increase.” Tons more. (link)
