New Jersey City will discontinue M&W Golf, M&W Tennis, and Men's XC, effective May 30, 2023. NJCU entered FY23 with a structural deficit of more than $20M, but with mitigation measures and the reduction of sponsored sports from 22 to 17, more than $10M in cost containment strategies have been identified, as the school eyes budget neutrality by June 30, 2023. Board of Trustees Chair Scott: “As we continue our rightsizing efforts, we simply will not have the resources to support an athletics department at the size it currently exists. This is a sacrifice we must accept as necessary, and by doing so, I am confident our remaining 17 athletic programs, student-athletes, and staff, will be able to flourish going forward.” Across campus, the management-level workforce at the university has been reduced by 41% since the pandemic. Opendorse announces a new “NIL Book” that provides earnings expectations for college athletes. The book, however, is only available to current school clients who contribute data from NIL disclosures and transactions.The book includes expected NIL earnings for each position group by division, including FBS, Power 5, Group of 5, FCS, NCAA DII, NCAA DIII, NAIA and NJCAA. Earnings are also divided by conference. It will be distributed twice per year, with the first version expected in January. The latest figures reveal that the top Power 5 quarterbacks earn an average of nearly $200K in NIL money annually, while running backs at that level pull in $130K. (link)
