Here are the details of Florida AD Scott Stricklin’s extension, which keeps him with the Gators through October 31, 2030, and increases his total annual compensation to $2.075M annually, making him the eighth-highest paid AD in the SEC and 17th nationally. Stricklin's base salary of $1.25M, which increased $200K from his previous contract, is “subject to future adjustments based upon percentage increases periodically available to UAA staff, though any compensation changes will require approval from UF's President,” per Swamp247’s Graham Hall, who adds: “In the event Stricklin's contract is terminated by the UAA without cause, the UAA will pay his base salary along with a $290K retention incentive for the remainder of the contract terms. Notably, Stricklin's new contract includes an option for a post-athletic director term, where he's able to become a special assistant to the succeeding athletic director upon the expiration of his contract if he's no longer serving as UF's athletic director.” Additionally, Stricklin will receive $100K if the Gators finish in the top five in the Learfield Directors’ Cup, $75K for a 6-10 finish and $50K for an 11-15 finish. He will also receive a $100K bonus for an APR of 985 or higher, $75K for APR of 950 or higher and $50K if each team had a multiyear APR rate of 950 or higher. (link, link)

Texas Tech Board of Regents Chairman Cody Campbell talks with OutKick’s Clay Travis about the future of college sports and submits that the “SCORE Act is very focused on the legal part – antitrust exemption, it establishes that student-athletes are not employees, and then it provides for preemption of the state laws. So right now we have 39 different state laws that govern college athletics and so they’re all in conflict with one another. It’s a huge mess, and it’s been a race to the bottom. … The problem is the SCORE Act does not fully address the problem. It focuses on the legal piece, but there are two other legs of the stool that have to be addressed – governance and economics. If all we do is pass the SCORE Act, we’re just locking in these costs and you’re locking schools out of revenue opportunities. And so if we’re not thoughtful in how we do this, we could end up dooming smaller schools almost immediately.” Campbell also notes that “we house our entire Olympic development program inside of intercollegiate athletics. We’re the only country in the world that does that. … The opportunities for women that it provides – and I didn’t realize this until I got into the data – the percentage of women that play sports then go on to be in C-level positions, it’s dramatically higher among female athletes than it is those that don’t have an athletic background. And again, just opportunity. And you can like Title IX or dislike Title IX, but you have to recognize the fact that it has done a lot for women throughout its history. … What I recognized was that if we professionalize it, the first thing that’s going to be cut are the women’s sports and the Olympic sports.” Lots more from Campbell. Ohio State AD Ross Bjork joined Front Office Sports Today and says when it comes to College Football Playoff expansion “selfishly, Ohio State could stay at four. … We could go back to four in most years, probably be okay. At 12, we should be okay. … But I’m a believer that for the good of the game, for the health of the game, for content, for high-level matchups, we should expand. Could we go to 16? Could we go to 20? Could we go to 24? … Nobody can argue with this — what’s wrong with more high level football? What’s wrong with more meaningful post-season content? What’s wrong with keeping the post-season alive for as many teams as possible? So to me, nobody can argue with that piece. Now how you get there – automatic qualifying spots, how many should the Big Ten have? And the SEC? That’s where everybody kind of gets hung up.” Bjork on NIL and sharing revenue: “Really the philosophy on NIL is embrace it at the highest level, be as aggressive as you can. … Everybody has the same ability to go up to the $20.5M, right? Everybody has that same number. How you spend that can all be variant depending on your institution. And then really the next race in this space, how do we create as much third-party NIL opportunities as possible? … That’s going to be the philosophy: Go all in, create opportunities.” (link)

Memphis has entered into revenue-sharing contracts with roughly 200 student-athletes, according to Tigers AD Ed Scott, who says the deals vary in length from six to 12 months. “One, so we don’t lock in our coaches to student-athletes beyond what our coaches may want. Two, to give our student-athletes flexibility as well. The last thing we want to do is be suing our student-athletes for breach of contract like we’ve seen some of our peers do. I don’t think that’s a good look, and being so new to this revenue-sharing process, I don’t think that’s the right thing to do at this time.” That said, Scott notes that “if the student-athlete enters the transfer portal or if there are other issues the student-athlete presents, we have recourse in those contracts to be able to do what we need to do to protect the institution and the athletic department.” Memphis football is 88% toward its football season ticket sales goal YTD, approximately $465K shy of $3.875M for FY26. The Tigers have sold 10,023 football season tickets to date – down from 10,151 last fiscal year. Men’s basketball has sold 4,229 season tickets for the 2025-26 campaign. Last fiscal year, the program sold 4,641 season tickets. (link)

Creighton AD Marcus Blossom announces the Bluejays have achieved a 95% season ticket renewal rate for men’s basketball, along with a 90% renewal rate for women’s volleyball. The women’s basketball program’s renewals are “slightly below our 90% target.” Blossom also notes the department has officially begun distributing revenue-share payments to student-athletes, and “as expected, the majority of revenue sharing will support our Men's Basketball program – our primary revenue driver. Our goal is to fund this program at a level consistent with the top-performing teams in the Big East and nationally.” (link)

New Mexico AD Fernando Lovo is open to any and all ideas to improve the football game day experience and tells the Santa Fe New Mexican’s Will Webber: “I told my team, just keep chipping away. Stay positive and no idea’s a bad idea.” Webber notes that in his initial staff meetings, Lovo welcomed suggestions while bringing in his own from his time at Texas, where the Longhorns have made Bevo Blvd. a staple of the game day experience. “It’s basically a massive party, a free fan-friendly place that has food vendors, drinks, games, kid activities, music and a parade for the school’s mascot and players on the way to the stadium,” per Webber, who adds: “[Lovo] immediately birthed Lobo Lane, which debuts with Saturday’s home opener against Idaho State at 1 p.m. It features a beer garden, food trucks, tents to sell merchandise, live music, a kids zone and even a giant outdoor TV screen to show other games around the country on Saturday.” Lovo says UNM season ticket sales are up 178% over last season and said he hopes every home game can attract 25K to 30K fans. Still, he cautions the staff to be patient and wait for results that might take a while to pay off. “Really, we just need to show the fans that we care.” (link)

Hawaii has received a $1M matching gift commitment from two-term UH Board of Regents Chair Gabriel Lee as part of the athletic department’s Giving Week campaign. Rainbow Warriors AD Matt Elliott: “This gift not only strengthens our current programs but creates a foundation for the future of UH Athletics. It sends a powerful message to our teams, coaches and fans: we are building something lasting, and we are doing it together.” (link)

Inside the 45K foot facility are dedicated practice courts for both the men’s and women’s programs, weight room, hydrotherapy tubs, lounge, film and locker room space as well as dedicated offices and conference rooms for both teams and a “connection tunnel to XFINITY Center for student-athletes to be able to travel to and from on gamedays.” There’s a full slate of photos, as well. As part of ongoing efforts to revitalize and enhance the game day experience, Richmond’s Robins Center will undergo its largest enhancement since 2014 through the installation of thousands of square feet of new Daktronics video displays and a rebuilt sound system prior to the start of the 2025-26 Men’s & Women’s Basketball seasons. In addition to the corner videoboards that hang beneath each of the four terraces in the Robins Center, courtside LED displays will also be replaced to ensure top-tier video quality throughout the arena with all boards linked to ensure accurate, identical scoring and timing data across all displays in the arena. Work on the sound system, scoreboards, and videoboards is expected to be completed by the end of September, while a new basketball team room is also slated to be ready before the start of the new campaign. A record 3,685 graduates are taking the field this college football this season, according to the National Football Foundation, which also shares the following factoids: 302 schools report graduates competing on the field this season; FBS schools average 16 graduates each, with 2,245 total FBS athletes; every FBS team boasts a graduate; every division of college football boasts graduates; Northwestern and Virginia lead the nation with 34 graduates each; Tennessee Tech sets the FCS high mark with 32 degree-holders; and 121 FBS schools report a double-digit number of graduates on their rosters. NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell: "This is proof that education remains at the heart of college football and that the game continues to shape leaders beyond the field, something we should celebrate just as much as the competition itself.” (link)

The WCC makes it official by announcing the addition of UC San Diego as a competing league member starting July 1, 2027. WCC Commissioner Stu Jackson: “We continually identify valuable opportunities to expand our membership, and the addition of UC San Diego greatly aligns with the goals of the West Coast Conference. UC San Diego’s meteoric rise during its recent NCAA Division I transition is the result of strong leadership, strategic investment and deliberate planning for postseason success. The Tritons align with our West Coast identity and serve to strengthen the academic profile of the conference. I appreciate the Presidents’ Council’s thorough evaluation of expansion opportunities and unified direction with the addition of UC San Diego.” (link)

Sportico’s Eben Novy-Williams believes it’s reasonable the NFL might want to play a direct role in reshaping college football since there are versions of the sport’s future that look particularly good for the league and others that are more threatening. With college football currently in “rudderless upheaval,” and “rapid professionalism” narrowing the gap between the NFL and America’s second-most watched sport, there “will be some consequences for the NFL.” For years, the NFL offered a notable salary bump for college football's biggest stars, but with the advent of NIL and revenue-sharing, should the economy for the sport’s top talent “continue to grow unchecked, it could permanently change the way the NFL’s next generation of stars view the league.” With college football teams transitioning to run more like professional operations with salary caps, free agency and roster construction, Novy-Williams notes that many teams have begun looking to the NFL to fill new college GM roles. As a result, “it’s likely about to get harder—or at least more expensive—for NFL teams to retain talent in scouting, football ops and analytics.” The author also adds that “NFL/NCAA media overlaps will only grow moving forward” with the league seeking new midweek game windows, such as with its “Black Friday” game that competes with college football’s “Rivalry Week” and the expanded College Football Playoff now overlapping with the end of the NFL season. More. (link)

Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark and league ADs joined Barstool Sports Founder Dave Portnoy for a 40-minute call on Wednesday, during which they offered him a “blank canvas” of engagement opportunities while stating their support for integrating the Barstool brand across the conference’s campuses, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger. Portnoy reposted Dellenger’s report on X, adding: “I can not confirm or deny this conference call took place. Gun to head I’d say it probably took place and [Barstool] is very excited to work with [the Big 12].” The meeting comes ahead of Big Noon Kickoff‘s visit to Ames, where Iowa State will host Iowa in the annual Cy-Hawk rivalry. Cyclones AD Jamie Pollard subsequently pointed out that “Iowa State is not Ohio State - Dave Portnoy and [Barstool] will be live from the Reiman Plaza Saturday as part of Fox's Big Noon Kickoff.” (link)

Accordingly, The Athletic’s Scott Dochterman asks if in today’s college football landscape, “when aiming for the CFP, is it better to be Iowa State, which has a clearer path to a Big 12 championship, or Iowa, which faces stiffer on-field competition but has more resources?” Hawkeyes AD Beth Goetz: “The opportunities to generate the revenue either directly from the Big Ten or because you are a Big Ten institution, there’s no doubt that that’s an advantage and certainly plays an impactful piece. [...] Being able to show up week in and week out in a conference with the depth and the talent we have, even if that means you’re playing against a more challenging opponent, or your path is more difficult is a component of that, I think competitors want to know they can play at the highest level. I think that’s really attractive.” Cyclones Football HC Matt Campbell: “In a small way, in the new version of the Big 12, there is certainly a pathway. It’s still not always going to be the easiest. There’ll be a lot of places that may have more financial resources than what we have. But I think what we have is enough, and what we have is really powerful.” Noting that “the Big Ten has financial advantages other leagues cannot approach.” (link)

Connecticut Men’s Basketball HC Dan Hurley considered stepping away from coaching and joining Fox Sports after last season, and he explains in his new book: “I thought about leaving. Taking a gap year. Resigning as head coach of the UConn Huskies.” Hurley described himself as “completely cooked” and “burnt,” unable even to understand how he was still standing in his office after the season ended. “I even talked to a TV executive about doing some commentary. The previous summer, I talked to Jay Wright about life after basketball. He said he was actually happy, sleeping. He wasn’t sick to his stomach nine months of the year.” Awful Announcing’s Sam Neumann subsequently points out that “while Fox Sports missed out on landing Hurley this time, his admission suggests the door remains open. If UConn’s championship window closes or the coaching grind becomes unbearable again, television might offer the escape route Hurley needs.” (link)

The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman looks at how TCU Director of Football Creative Media Sam Lazarus and his three-person team celebrated the Horned Frogs’ 48-14 win over North Carolina from the Football X account through “memes, one-liners and lots of receipts.” With the overwhelming majority of the pregame hype focused on UNC HC Bill Belichick’s debut, Feldman mentions that for a TCU team “coming off a nine-win season with most of its top talent returning, the disrespect of being reduced to some random faceless opponent felt like a snub.” As a result, after North Carolina raced to a 7-0 lead, “the Horned Frogs systematically dismantled everything Belichick and his team attempted to do, and Lazarus and his three-person crew were ready to celebrate all of it. [...] Lazarus proceeded to zing everyone, from Skip Bayless to Colin Cowherd to the UNC Football account, before the night was over.” Lazarus: “TCU was the favorite in the game, but you probably wouldn’t have known it beforehand. A lot of that played into how we approached it afterwards. We wanted to play into the irony of how it was all covered.” For the night’s efforts, TCU’s football X account has received more than 17M views, which Lazarus mentions is part of the goal: “We’re in a private school in a league with a lot of huge schools, UCF, ASU, Texas Tech is big. We have to get more creative with how we get attention because we don’t have that same built-in fan base that some others have. This part is just so much fun.” (link)

The NWSL’s Chicago Stars are slated to play their 2026 season at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium, per SBJ’s Bret McCormick. Stars President Karen Leetzow: “It’s beautiful, it’s intimate, right-sized for women’s soccer, the most iconic location you could imagine on Lake Michigan, so we decided to go for it.” The club will rent Martin Stadium from the university, while Northwestern will continue to pay for the rented temporary structure. According to Leetzow, the Stars are “looking to drive between 8K and 10K fans for matches in Evanston, while averaging at least 6K. That’s significantly more than the Stars average at SeatGeek Stadium.” Leetzow: “We needed to make change. This is a big step for us, it’s transformational. We’re moving a mere 30 miles but approximately two hours of traffic. It’s a much more commercial environment than we’ve ever had before and with the global growth of women’s sports we see this as unlocking the value of this club in a way that we haven’t yet.” (link)
