Stevenson selects Catholic Assoc. AD for Facilities and Operations Jordan Hoover as its next AD. VP for Facilities and Administration Jim Mustard: “Jordan's extensive and varied experience in university athletics will be an asset to the university. He will help us continue to make Stevenson a great place for student-athletes to develop their strengths and talents athletically, academically, and professionally through our career development focus.” Spelman Johnson assisted with the search. New England College will compete in its first varsity Football game in over 50 years when the Pilgrims host Plymouth State on Saturday. The inaugural NEC roster is made up of nearly 40% New Hampshire natives and HC Kevin Kelly understands the road ahead for the program: “Just think about what we’ll be like in three or four years. We’ll be just like everybody else.” New Hampshire Public Radio’s Todd Bookman adds: “The administration is backing the revitalized football team with a new stadium and an updated training facility, both of which are still under construction. For now, fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs to Saturday’s game, as there is limited bleacher space for the more than 2,000 people expected to attend.” Kelly’s first goal: “New England College has never won a varsity football game. So that’s our first goal.” (link)

The DI FBS Oversight Committee is recommending changing the football recruiting calendar to a single transfer portal window between January 2 and 11. “Another part of the recommendation would make the entire month of December a recruiting dead period (in which coaches can call, write, text or email prospects and their families but no on- or off-campus recruiting contacts or evaluations may occur). Jan. 5-31 would remain a recruiting period, when coaches can have contact with or evaluate prospects. […] The oversight committee also recommended a modification to the first date when prospective football student-athletes can receive written offers of financial aid or settlement-related benefits. Currently, prospective student-athletes can receive written offers beginning Aug. 1 before their senior year of high school. The recommendation would change the first date for written offers to Nov. 15 of the prospect's senior year in high school.” The proposal now heads to the DI Administrative Committee, which is set to vote before October 1. Union receives a $1M donation from alums Andy and Sana Brooks to support transforming the Achilles Center Messa Rink into a 27K square-foot indoor turf space, as the Ice Hockey programs move to M&T Bank Center. The new space will don the Brooks name and is set to open by January 1. In addition to the turf space, the strength training facility will now be used exclusively for student-athletes, certain locker rooms and coaches offices will move to the Achilles Center and upper levels of the facility will be turned into hitting and pitching areas. AD Jim McLaughlin: “This facility will allow our lacrosse, softball and baseball teams to prepare for their seasons in ideal conditions during the winter months, while also providing many other Union athletic teams with out-of-season practice opportunities that were not previously available. In addition, it will create new openings for our students to engage in recreational and intramural activities as well.” (link)

The Landmark will continue its Gameday at the Palestra for the fourth straight year in January. The 2026 version will feature Catholic, Drew, Goucher and Juniata on the men’s side and Lycoming, Moravian, Scranton and Susquehanna on the women’s side. Commissioner Katie Boldvich: “The Palestra has quickly become a true Landmark tradition. What started as a bold idea just four years ago is now an expectation, and we’re proud of the partnership with Penn that makes it possible. Everyone was surprised when we first brought our programs here, and now we’re at the point of teams returning for a second opportunity. That’s truly special and speaks volumes about our collaboration and commitment as a conference to creating meaningful experiences for our student-athletes.” (link)
